But also the drama in the bike racing is insane… there’s always some joy in there, courage, villainy, humour, generosity, pain; several ongoing story threads; team rivalries, personal rivalries… you can see the edges of it on TV but eventually you get it all.
And the sheer power and endurance of these people is amazing. And how do they do it in 39°C heat?
Have been watching more cycling during this southern winter. Becoming slightly obsessed. Got a month of Defector to follow their ace Tour de France coverage and then discovered Escape Collective was giving six months to Defector subscribers and omg I almost can’t keep up. Escape Collective is just so great. I may have to get me a real subscription for Christmas.

Last night’s Marlon Williams gig was a banger. Such an entertainer. If variety shows were still a thing that pulled audiences he’d be a sitter as a host: music, comedy, and an ease with audiences and guests that is very loveable.
He did a duet with a kid he’d spotted on Instagram covering one of his songs. He took requests. And he had a bunch of fun, as did we.
Downloaded and paid for an iOS app which superficially seemed great but now, at the edges, is full of slop content and badly tested features.
Much regret.
The core functionality works but the extra stuff around it does not.
Note to self to check that the subscription sport place has the thing you want before you drop some $$ for a month pass. Do not assume.
Related: no, Sky Sport Now here in NZ does not have the Giro d’Italia (despite having the Tour and the Vuelta… and many much smaller cycling events). Very annoying. And we still need to pay $$ to a different provider should we want to watch lots of Football World Cup coming up soon.

Not sure which is worse: USB charging prongs (that you plug straight into a wall-wart) or charging sockets (requiring a cable).
Having now broken several prongs on expensive Knog lights (most recently on my beloved Bilby head torch) I’m thinking sockets FTW though these aren’t always the best either.
Anyone have a good head torch rec? Main use case is monitoring our dog’s evening ablutions on our unfenced section… we don’t want her attacking Chungus the hedgehog who lives in the neighbour’s deadfall pile; chasing our increasingly emboldened rat population; or barking at passers-by…

@exlibrarykris@cloudisland.nz Upstairs there isn’t a lot of flat space, it’s sort of a series of terraces with stools etc. you could dance but people have probably paid extra for the amenities mentioned earlier and might not be happy.
