@dazo@infosec.exchange @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange I do wonder where aarch64 CPUs come in. They generally have better cost per watt. I suppose reliability is more about specific board/manufacturer. I gess that's why they all make their custom hw in this space?

@dazo@infosec.exchange i was about to say some greyhays might create a couple accounts with interesting domain/prominent addresses and the problem might get solved. But I see you already though of it... 🤣

I'm writing/updating a doc for my wife for "what if" scenario in case I'm incapacitated and can't deal with tech in our lives. It's been a sobering experience. DNS, Email, various self-hosted services, passwords/2FA/recovery codes, home-automation, networking, encrypted backups....

#selfhosting is great and I would not discourage folks from it, but if others depend on you - don't be a single point of failure with no recovery. Stuff happens...

The fact that compiling #Firefox fails because my desktop with 64GB RAM runs out of memory is making me furious. ld taking 41GB of RAM? What?

@mikelovesbikes@hear-me.social you likely have runtime gtk2 libraries. To compile packages depending on gtk2 you also need devel headers (not just for gtk2 but all its dependencies too). That would be my guess anyway

@graste you think users have it bad? I pity the poor souls trying to plan and communicate "copilot" anything at Microslop. The comms confusion must be out of this world

@twm I've been Fastmail user for a few years and while yes, not exactly cheap (though... $3.89 USD/user/month is not that much) some of their features are hard to beat. One big example for me is support for custom domains + masked emails (or catch-all). Masked emails are nicer than catch-all since then my wife can use them too and since they're on my domain they're not getting blocked. There's an API for that too so I could plug into it.

@sue@glasgow.social but people have poured enormous amounts of time into platforms such as reddit for free already. I think the idea of small web etc is that people pour that same energy into places they control. Create their own friendly neighborhoods.
