My bachelors thesis is done, at the cost of my sanity. :puppycat_flop:

Napster, Limewire and Dat (through a strange pipeline to become "pears") are all AI projects in some shape or form now. What a weird timeline we're in.

Woke up to an email that a subdomain I linked to on a repo was resolving to a "scammy russian sign up". I couldn't see the scam site but scrambled around for an hour trying to figure out how it could've been compromised until I realised there was never a scam site and what they were looking at was more than likely the management system login for netcup :puppycat_flop:

Experimented a bit more with custom HTML tags today. I have my own presentation tool based on @ratfactor@mastodon.art minslides, I changed the individual slides to a custom tag but I also added in a custom attribute for the slide's colourscheme.
Went from <div class="slide colour_light"> to <slide theme="light">. The attribute can be targetted with [theme="dark"] in CSS and then styled as needed.

I'm putting together a mini solar powered web server for my major project in college, Arduino IDE just wasn't cutting it for low-power esp32 dev so I looked into esp-idf and what do you know my random romping around in the rockbox codebase is going to come in use writing embedded C for this :thinktink:

Doing my bachelors thesis on local-first and p2p software, and just lost a research chart because the software I was using went offline and had problems syncing when back. The thesis almost writes itself :thinktink:

The family Spotify subscription ran out today, and wont be getting renewed! Took me a few years to build up a music collection that satisfied my listening habits, but I haven't used Spotify in months so there's was no point in keeping it :thinktink:

Everyone in my department expects me to be AI savvy because I'm (relatively) technologically literate, and every conversation where they just assume I am has me sweating like sheep among wolves :thinktink:

Been working on my site a lot more recently, very theraputic for me working in html and css. Nothing published yet cause I have an unfinished blog post I'm too lazy to make a draft, but I'm feeling really energised by it all again.

Doing an AI-critical thesis for my bachelors, it makes people incredibly uncomfortable when I talk about it. I know people who openly insult others for using AI for things, but I just don't feel like it's the right. There's a lot of shame and guilt young people have using AI, but I get the feeling they just can't stop. There's some addictive force driving their use.

Toying with an idea I had for a new navigation bar design for my site. I love it, but it doesn't play too nice with mobile like the old one and I am unable to use @media queries or flexboxes to solve this :thinktink:

As I've begun to make the design of my site more interesting, changes have become more drawn out to do. Limiting myself to the HTML neccesary to support as many devices as possible has it's drawbacks, but ultimately I am stubborn and I like making the point that it can be done. :thinktink:

I now know more about niche text encoding formats from the 1990s than any person reasonably should need to in 2025.

Exciting day today, I spotted my first new bee species in over 2 years! The Marsham Nomad Bee is both the first nomad bee and the first cuckoo bee (parasitic nester) I've spotted! It has gorgeous orange legs and antennae, and yellow striped abdomen like that of a wasp. This one was quite dozy so I was look to get some good shots despite how small it was.

Starting to work on the final font generation for Themify 2. Rockbox unfortunately has basically no kerning functionality, so it's looking like I'll have to fine tune a lot of the spacing by hand in fontforge :thinktink:

I sat down this evening to quickly fix up the song title code on Themify 2 so I could release the second beta, and I ended up creating a small algorithm to neatly split song titles over two lines without breaking words up. I put this off for over a year now because I thought it would be so hard, and yet it only took me 10 minutes! :thinktink:

Pretty much worked down through all of the remaining tasks for Themify 2, bar the 2 bigger tasks that will need a few days of work. Finished off the status page and decided to give the sub version names a colourful naming scheme! Very much on track to finish this project in the coming month or so :eyeless_baguette:

With the trees just beginning to bloom this week, it's the perfect time for the first bee hunt of the year! The willow tree especially was hoping with a lot of special ones, like the mining bees. I don't think I captured anything new yet, but hoping to expand the bee pokedex even just a little this weekend :thinktink:
