Rails rendering non-idempotent state-altering actions as GET links instead of POST forms was one of the many reasons I decided not to use it in https://samizdat.barley.cloud/ back in the day. Funny how the same kind of people who ruined Ruby community with that irresponsible nonsense also brought us "curl | sudo bash" and LLMs. False promise to deliver something that doesn't need to be understood has been a theme in tech, and never ended well.

@humanhorseshoes@mastodon.world Indeed. Jews comprised just under 9% of population of Belarus before WW2, and 90% of them perished in Holocaust. For scale, 25% of population of Belarus perished between 1941 and 1945, i.e. Holocaust consitutes less than half of the killings even when not including the mass executions of Belarusians by Soviets in 1939-1941 (when USSR was still Hitler's ally) at sites such as Kurapaty and Brest Fortress. And Russians still insist on atrributing all these deaths to Nazis, too.

Millions of people in #Belarus and #Ukraine were and continue to be exposed to radioactive isotopes. #Cancer cases went up, I am part of that statistic as cancer survivor. #Thyroid gland disfunction has become commonplace, my wife can't function without a daily dose of levothyroxine. Birth defects went up in Belarus and all over Europe. Displacement of hundreds of thousands further accelerated centuries-long demographic decline of Belarus that started with the genocidal #ForgottenWar of 1654.

40 years ago today #Chernobyl nuclear disaster started. In a rush to earn a promo from #Communist party, NPP's chief engineer went on with a reckless test that led to one of the reactors blowing up. With its usual genocidal indifference to #Belarusian and #Ukrainian lives, #Russia's leaders denied scale and public health implications of the disaster, proceeded with their May parades, and, when the radioactive clouds turned towards #Moscow, had them seeded to land 70% of the fallout in #Belarus.

Better use of kernel buffers when copying files to Samba NAS. Meanwhile comparing directories ignoring mtime, mass-rename leveraging glob patterns, file search results as a virtual folder -- it all still works, using same shortcuts.

@parismarx Accountability laundering is not a new problem in tech,¹ but LLMs are making it a thousand times worse because they are specifically designed to mimicry humans and human agency. ¹ Remember how Facebook claimed it wasn't their fault Cambridge Analytica collected personal data of hundreds of millions of people and used it to convince entire countries to vote for fascists? They claimed they told CA to delete the data, but let them keep the models trained on it.

That is why I always push back on the "voting don't matter" narrative. It will always matter, it will always be worth fighting for the right to vote.

Journalists and influencers amplifying this message are helping him scare people into not voting in November. For the rest of the game, watch what #TulsiGabbard is doing. Gerry-mandering and voter suppression might not be enough this time, they're preparing to seize the ballots and voting machines under bogus national security pretenses and prevent certification of the vote by the states.

My grandmother volunteered to fight Nazis when she was 16, walked all the way to Moscow and back all the way to Berlin, and left a graffiti on the Reichstag's wall that said "I came here to kill War." My connection to WW2 is second hand and very personal. For my kids, it remained third hand until Russia invaded Ukraine. Only then it became second hand and personal for them, too.
