More than that, you can use NFTs to measure how strong an org's decision making culture is There's no reason to ship NFT support in your luxury car now, aside from the sunk costs you wasted producing it. You could just cancel the thing and no one would know Choosing to ship an irrelevancy like this is revealing too!

A fascinating artifact of the NFT bubble is using it to measure organizational product velocity

That is, seeing how much latency exists between identification of a trend and actually shipping something responsive to that trend

In this case, we're seeing a legacy auto manufacturer ship NFT support (lol) at the same moment Twitter has discontinued their take on the trend

Talk about stranded assets

@wujibear@universeodon.com @tomw@mastodon.social the self-governance is already here and the UX is really simple: If someone doesn’t like an instance, they leave for another one. An instance manages itself—including its moderation—for the benefit of its users, or risks their flight. That’s it. As time goes on, there will be more mechanisms to promote tighter feedback loops in this process, better dialogue, explicit policy building But the premise is baked, inextricably, into how people already use this medium

@tomw@mastodon.social well that’s exactly it: All there ever was was humans making decisions, some of them unsavory. The technocratic automation was a fantasy, and trusting in it absolutely was folly. Meanwhile, for the techno fetishist, the Fediverse is a fully open source proposition! Any number of automated mechanisms to support governance are possible

@jdp23@indieweb.social oh, any VC worth their fund is going to try and profit here, so I’m certain you’re right But I speak specifically of the lemmings who FOLLOW VC trends, skating to where someone’s investment thesis says the puck is going

It's telling to me that the Fediverse—which provides all the self-governance of a DAO, and all the decentralization of web3—has no interest from the VC bootlicker class.

It reveals a lot about how a plausible technological benefit evolves into a grift. web3 nonsense was never about new paradigms. It was about constructing bags and conscripting bag holders. The proof is right here. Those guys are now chasing AI, instead of viable expressions of the goals they claimed to be so invested in.
