I've never been on Goodreads and didn't want to go there bc corporations, so I tried Bookwyrm, but I am very very confused.

The book I just read isn't on there, only one other book by the author; I seem to be able to edit information there (who moderates this? How does it work?) - I don't understand how to use the platform.

I wan't to put reviews of some indie books I read recently somewhere, but I don't know how to do that. Or if this is even the right place for it.

#bookwyrm

@Lana@beige.party @Gurre@mastodon.nu Hm, a movie soundtrack would be more like a full ballet music or something? Game music could in theory be structured like a symphonic work, it's just rare that someone bothers, bc everything needs to sound "epic" *rolleyes*

@jellyfriend@plush.city @Lana@beige.party Even during the era of post-war serialism, Only a fraction of symphonic works written were serialist. There are hundreds of almost unknown composers who wrote symphonic music, often performed once, then shelved. It's just that if you write stuff that sounds like 19th century, you will be compared to the best of the 19th century, and almost always lose to the already popular one. There isn't really a demand for more of the same, unless you have some extra good marketing.

@Lana@beige.party Yeah well I spent a year writing an orchestra piece - mandatory for uni degree - being very aware that it will never be played. The composing isn't the bottleneck, I'd say, but an orchestra is a room full of highly-trained professionals. Very. Very. Expensive.

@jcastroarnaud Yeah, it's absolutely overwhelming. I remember someone saying "The xenharmonic community consists of mathematicians tempted by music and musicians tempted by math." And well, this wiki is very heavy on the mathematician side, to the point of often being of no use musically.^^

@jcastroarnaud I'm not sure if you are aware of the xen wiki? That would be a starting point... https://en.xen.wiki/w/53edo (People have made up SO MUCH more scales and names for them than actually written music, so it's still possible to be the first to *actually* do something with a scale.) As for assigning frequencies to keys, ... there is scaleworkshop; I don't particularly like it for playing, but it does that. You'd start writing the scale as 4\53 13\53 and so on, I think?
