Despite that, i've been drawing and/or painting every day for the last two and a half weeks, which is the most consistent I've been all year.
I think the secret has been writing down drawing ideas ahead of time and working down the list, just an item or two a day. It turns out ideation is one of the things I struggle with most, after thinking it was my strong suit for years. But once it's written down I can come back to an idea and develop it further, thumbnail, all that jazz. Ideation time is ideation time, and drawing time becomes drawing time. I don't worry about whether the idea is good while also worrying about how it looks, I let those two activities be separate things, and I think my emotional cognitive load is alleviated as a result.
There's still a certain vulnerability that comes with sharing these ideas that hopefully will become more comfortable as I do it more.

It sure does feel like jet-engine levels of performance for customer survice (as much as retail affords that), but of course burning hot and bright so quickly leaves me totally dead once I get home. So that's unfortunate!

I have a self-hosting puzzle I'm trying to solve and could use a hint.
I like taking notes in markdown using something like Obsidian, and maybe in the future something with a web ui. I have a strong desire to keep my data (note files, image or video files) on the filesystem itself and not as a blob in a database.
I want to embed media in my notes, but do not want the media files stored alongside the note files as one might with most markdown note solutions.
Instead, I want to self host something like S3 object storage for myself that gives me a web url to the media on my NAS I want to embed in my note.
Is there some sort of software that would allow me to expose files in an existing folder on my NAS to a web api? Something like object storage, but one that already respects my file hierarchy?

@xanthe@furries.club I would be more than hesitant to adopt this for a number of reasons, a lot of them brought up in the article, but with deeper implications about the increased financial risk involved.
I'm cut up over whether it's worthwhile to have a tool for making transactions in a way that circumvents censorship versus legitimizing tech with dangerous ideologies often surrounding it. I actually don't think this helps the dollar be more equitable, and might even segregate transactions of alternative media even further. One could perhaps frame is as a solution to a systemic problem if we ignore that it could as well be a vector to additional systemic problems, or at least making the initial one worse.
A portion of the article is just "Well, i've bought into crypto, and yeah it's totally used for scams, but anyway, here's my wallet if you want to give me money."
I don't know what the solution is, and I'm glad someone out there knows enough about the tech involved to write this, but the vibes here aren't super inspiring to me this time.

Is my conception a different pattern, or is MVC just that inconsistent in how it's conceptualized?
If the controller is client-side, it's vulnerable to tampering, so it shouldn't make db queries, probably. Am I wrong about this?
If the controller acts as a middleman between the view and model, then, by the pattern, I assume the model runs server side (since once again, vulnerable db code otherwise), but then all operations are running on the server, costing server resources that aren't related to requests for db information, which costs more money for the company paying for hosting. Why would non-sensitive business logic need to be executed server side if it can be executed client side? It's a waste of money if it isn't client side!
If a controller is supposed to be an interface between the view and model, it seems rather unnecessary unless there is a specific business concern requiring the view <-> model communication to be incredibly decoupled, a la the facade pattern. I could understand how in larger companies this might help with development, but it doesn't seem any better or worse than referencing one from the other, or having the view hold an instance of the model to operate on from a separation of concerns pov. The more I think about it from a decoupling pov, it seems nice, but perhaps hardly necessary for basic CRUD apps.

Starting with seperation of concerns, the view should be code that handles presentation of elements of a page, perhaps moving HTML around either based on user information or info from deeper in the stack. I imagine view code could be largely client side without too many issues (unless templating is involved, in which case i've been made aware templating can introduce potential vulnerabilities).
The model should be responsible for operating on information the user inputs from the view or incoming data from the database. It may not interface with the database directly, and it probably shouldn't, given that if the model is client-side, I imagine tampering could leave the database vulnerable. I'm not sure if it makes sense for the model to be server-side at all.
The controller is a (probably) server-side application that interfaces between the front end and the database. It sanitizes input before db operations are done and packages db information into json or something that can be sent to the frontend for processing, most likely the model since that's what the model does.

The things people agree on:
- A Model should hold business logic/information for processing
- A View should present the user with interactivity and handle how it responds to things
What no one seems to agree on:
- Where a Controller sits in the stack, or what it actually does.
- Whether it interfaces with just the database, just between the View and Model, or both.
The more I read about MVC, the more I'm convinced no one actually knows what it is.

Vanilla js is okay. It does everything I need it to, but I think the way I've structured my app makes it sort of difficult to work with. I'm curious just how much better an actual frontend library would be, cause rn it's popsicle sticks and elmers glue up in here
Got a python backend spinning alongside the vanilla js frontend. Tacked on a sqlite db and now it's a CRUD app.
The world has been cursed with yet another task managment app.

Definitely put a link in a pinned post, profile description, and caard. Occasionally I've run into people I've wanted to support but could not find a way to do that anywhere. At the very least, I think having it in the profile description is the safest place.
Whether or not I sub usually depends on how deeply I connect with the artist's work/vision, and also what incentives there are. Based on artists I've subbed to, they had a particular niche I connected with and were working on bigger projects in that niche that I wanted more/extra content from, and subbing got me that.

No one should be going into free software projects expecting to get paid for it, and the fact that people do get paid for it is the exception and not the rule. Likewise, if there's an expectation for the users to pay for software, and the software is being distributed for free, I'd argue the onus isn't on the users, but on the authors/distributors to monetize it correctly.
Imo FOSS as a business model isn't in the spirit of FOSS (vscodium, for example). Neither does software we've paid for guarantee any special privileges or increased trust in the authors. It just means we've paid for it.

I'm curious to hear more about this take. I'm only a hobbyist at this point, but I run some docker services on my local network, nothing (to my knowledge) exposed to WAN or ports forwarded. Surely this can't be *mostly* docker and DX's fault that the internet is like this, can it?
The reason I ask is because I care about my services and network being secure, and in the future I would like to host public web servers, though probably not from my home network. Inevitably there will be something I'll miss when embarking on a project like that, but I'm wondering if there's a takeaway I'm missing from these posts aside from avoiding abstraction as much as possible when designing web services.
