I'm applying for an #EmbeddedSystem position in a few weeks. I haven't done any embedded development in about a decade. My main expertise is in Rust and Linux development. Does anyone have any advice on how I can prepare for this interview? What should I review?

Programming in #Assembly shows you how inherently stupid computers truly are. We've built a lot of tooling to make it easier to build that assembly, but that's the crux of it. Just a fancy calculator.

@aral@mastodon.ar.al good. Having read the amd64 manual. I can decisively say that it's a good thing that they're leaving the consumer industry. x86 has decades of legacy bloat that makes it chug energy. This will give newer more efficient CPU architectures a chance in the spotlight. Any computer brand that thinks that consumers are not worth selling to have sealed their own coffin.

@cstross@wandering.shop it's called being a professional software engineer, at least in my country. It's just that we have failed to enforce that people who write software for the general public and call themselves engineers *must* be licenced. I was inundated with software horror stories in my undergrad only for them to be committed by my bosses in reality.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange I didn't mean to laugh at their expense. I don't think I would be immune to this either. These mistakes happen, it seems like an easy fix at least. It definitely reinforces the idea that unwraps are essentially trip mines in a codebase that will bring your entire system down.

Every computer and application should by default we would like it to fuck off, and then wholeheartedly support our decisions.
