ALL Colto Cloud services (colto.cloud, instafops.net, red.fox.yt, chat.fox.yt, matrix.fox.yt, flooftube.net, etc.) will be temporarily shut down between:
12 June 2026 00:00 AEST to
15 June 2026 23:59 AEST.
The servers are once again being physically migrated during the above time period. This is hopefully the last time for the next 5-10 years.
Servers will be back online at/before:
16 June 2026 00:00 AEST
Upon relocation, the servers will experience a network speed boost from 50Mbps to 100Mbps.
The actual downtime may vary depending on when the rack is switched off and powered back on at the new place.
It's in my best interests to have the server up as soon as possible since it's hosting my email services.
If any prolonged issues occur, I'll post updates to the https://uptime.fox.yt/status/coltocloud page and/or on my @colto@forgi.social account.

I've lowered the default video storage limit on https://FloofTube.net from 100GB to 20GB due to storage and backup constraints.
FloofTube is currently the largest server in the weekly server backups.
I technically don't have the storage for 20GB/user (112GB actual) if every user were to actually upload the maximum.
I will allow exceptions for users that produce quality content, users can request more by DMing me (or I will quietly increase it anyway).
All that said, my own account is only using 11GB for all my channels which even that is within the new default quota.

Just installed Service Watchdog on the Colto Cloud firewall.
There should be less outages now that it will automatically restart the load balancer when it crashes (crashes pretty often).

The Fox.yt Matrix (matrix.fox.yt - via https://chat.fox.yt) server will be soft shutting down for public use on 16 August 2026.
By this I mean I will be purging all unknown accounts in Synapse and their associated rooms on that date. This is a 3 month advance notice for anyone wishing to export their chat data.
I will however be allowing users to opt-in for the continued use of matrix on the fox.yt domain, users just have to DM me to opt back in. So it's not a full shutdown.
This purge is expected to clear out dead/inactive accounts from creating unnecessary data storage, processing and traffic to the server.
This originally would have been a full shutdown but thanks to @dalite@bark.lgbt for the tips on optimising Synapse enough to keep it going. After compressing the state table and purging 592 rooms (most were empty, others were just too big for the server) the database size dropped from 224GB to 60GB (still my biggest database).
This soft shutdown should reduce the load on the server to free up more resources for https://red.fox.yt, https://instafops.net and https://FloofTube.net.

Lots of connectivity problems today with the Mammoth Media DDoS outage, but looks like we're good now.
The outage earlier had us completely offline between 12:30pm - 5:30pm AEST and intermittently after until 11:30pm.
During the next few hours the Fox.yt Matrix server will be down for maintenance while we attempt to substantially reduce the size of the state table so that the server may run normally again. I haven't been able to access the client UI anyway so I doubt this causes any issues.

Is anyone that's using the Fox.yt matrix server actually able to access it?
I don't think it's actually able to query the database properly anymore, the database has grown to 218GB which is way more data than the server has RAM for. The server runs on an array of hard drives so it can't really go much faster.
The weekly backup for synapse is about 80GB compressed (224GB uncompressed).
Synapse seems to be out of control using almost all of the server's 20GB of RAM.
I checked the active users and it only came up with me and 3 others.
Maybe I should just shut down the Synapse server permanently. Thoughts?
