Here's to giving and feeling more peace and love in 2026.

And to be crystal clear, in my book real love and compassion involves advocating for and supporting the giving of deserved consequences to those who knowingly have harmed others.

IOW: here's to lots of impeachments, arrests, and imprisonment of fascists and the as peaceful as possible transfer of power to more fit people. Hey, I know it's a long shot, but it could happen. Happy New Year to antifa people everywhere.

There will always be folks who -can't- think for themselves very well.

That's just reality.

Those folks will follow and parrot as "THE TRUTH!!!": what is most appealing to them, and they -won't- be able to tell if it's bullshit or not..

And if one group keeps telling them they are "naturally superior" ...they'll WANT to believe it

what would you have been doing 200 years ago today? As a human -my life- would have been tougher: no indoor plumbing, electricity, fewer options for obtaining and transporting goods -needed- to live on. Oh and medicine, little stuff like that (/s)

So many innovations* have been helpful, and I appreciate the folks who helped bring them to reality. Making life more survivable was necessary.

Humans now have the means and knowledge to do this (in healthier ways) for everyone.

Speaking of, he makes zero mention of the pronounced and (by now) truly unmistakeable rightward tilt "journalism" and "news" have been taking, which is a thing Cassandra types have been yelling about for decades.

Along the same lines:

Ego will -generally- come up with self centered "solutions." Stuff that a person thinks makes them look good, or benefits them primarily.

Compassion will -generally- come up with solutions that will really solve problems more equitably.

It's a simple distinction, really, but a person has have some ability to listen to themselves and be able to tell which part is saying what

That takes practice, but can be learned.

Focus on those who would think to tie people to the tracks. Those folks are the real problems. Figure out how to contain -them-

YES. How a subject is framed has ALWAYS mattered.
A lot. A whole lot.

"A social mobility plan" is a great device for deflecting -away- from the real problem, which is any system that creates and then entrenches huge levels of inequity.

Deflection can be very effective.

Marketers and PR people hired by the wealthy know this. And it's a large part of how we got to these dystopias (by listening to the wrong people frame stuff in ways that benefit their short term greed/interests/advantages)

Social problems are caused by people listening to, acquiescing to, or being forced to go along with the "advice" or ideas of the wrong people.

Kind of simple, really.

What is difficult is getting enough people in key positions to stop doing that.

IMO: good chunk of people are -profoundly- confused about the differences between legitimate authority (based in good judgement and expertise) and the abuse of authority.

This becomes more obvious during fascism.

Degrowth is an incredibly threatening idea to capitalists -esp. to some in certain industries.

There's gonna be lots more disinfo and distortions about it.

Degrowth targets -excesses- that are harmful (mega yachts, bombs, commutes- stuff we don't need to live well), not reductions to basic well being.

Comments declaring we'll need to live in caves, or that reductions in population are necessary first steps …yeah, ya might want to investigate whether they are paid shills or just ignorant.

While there are good folks doing good work at the EEOC, unfortunately, many many parts of the system are working as designed, and those parts protect big $$ and entrenched power
