@mttaggart@infosec.exchange @whynothugo@fosstodon.org my original point was only to clarify the problem. I cannot see anything in the issue that's not related to user login? The team thing?

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange @whynothugo@fosstodon.org sure but crates can be hosted anywhere. You don't have to publish to crates.io but if you do then your crates do not need to use GitHub at all. The single dependency on GitHub is for authentication which is the only thing that needs to be replaced to fix this issue.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange @whynothugo@fosstodon.org you need a token which in turn requires you to have a crates.io account for which a GitHub login is required.

@whynothugo@fosstodon.org @mttaggart@infosec.exchange to be clear, crates can be hosted anywhere. GitHub is only used for user login and not anything to do with crates themselves.

@ShadSterling@mastodon.social @0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange it was definitely not excluded from the discussion. There's a very long (private) thread where there's a heck of a lot of discussion on the ethics (sometimes heated) and some public RFCs going into broader policy. However the one thing with a lot of support was banning llm PRs to rustc. And it was realised we can just do that before having to settle the broader policy. So the internal policy is focused on how to word that decision, not discussing the policy itself.

@yosh@toot.yosh.is it's the impression I got from the libs-api meeting https://hackmd.io/IduUC5KOQyme38Vf53VYBw

@yosh@toot.yosh.is not to dampen the excitement but it's in libs-api fcp. Further approval will be needed from lang at the very least.

@jhpratt@mastodon.social iirc the Linux kernel's rust code achieves the same thing manually by minimally scoping unsafe blocks.

@0x2ba22e11@unstable.systems a long while back but iirc it needs to be enabled manually so it's not surprising many people don't realise unless they've dug through all the settings

@0x2ba22e11@unstable.systems GitHub has discussions which I guess could be used for this. But it seems more designed as a Q&A.
