I am having a difficult time programming a double ratamacue on the Octatrack.

Having fun approaching the Octatrack as a programming device. Projects are like functions that take certain types of inputs and create certain types of outputs, which are then fed into other project functions as inputs. Tracks are the outputs of higher order functions.

@gosha@merveilles.town @fastmail@mastodon.social I use fastmail too and I’ve just gotten really fast at marking things as spam… over, and over, and over

@nnirror @ho @williamfields Without having the full context here I’ll say: you can use gen~ inside of a pfft~ patch (with fftin~). If you’re wanting to do cross-bin stuff then you end up having to have a single fft frame-delay to do it due to the way Max sets the system up. But… just so ya know if that’s useful!

@neauoire Fun to create a sort of internal vocabulary for these things. An earlier version of one of my projects called a lot of things “templates” and then later those got sort of internally phased out, so now I have “trusses” everywhere and I don’t know if that’s really using the word correctly but it feels nice.

@ho Gotcha I think. Yeah probably mostly comes down to how you design the system for them to interact and what coordinates them etc. Will be interested to see how you’re approaching it! I imagine it confronts similar issues to creating modular performance systems… like how to get good coordination out of disparate system elements in a way that’s flexible enough for your needs.

@ceephax It’s a nice MIDI router/hub. It has 8 MIDI Ins and 8 Outs and can route MIDI between them however you like. Configure it via USB (or on the unit), but it runs standalone once you’ve got it set up. Can also do USB MIDI, so you can talk to 8 devices from your computer.

@t36s I forget! I think it has a tendency to do that even when it actually received everything successfully. Definitely a bit slow on the MIDI side. Last time I was using it for an FM drum kit (1 drum per channel) I swear it had a funk/swing to it that was *not* from my sequencer :)

… and here’s the pile of racks it replaced. Now I can actually move the monstrosity around when I need to re-route things. Feels like I’ve “made it”.
