Come for the intermittent #BikeTooter and urbanism toots, suffer through my obsessions with music, food, and making things with my hands. Pogievangelist. From Vancouver, living in Ottawa.
Twitter refugee from #OttBike and #OttPoli

Unless I say so in my post, I am almost certainly not asking for your unsolicited advice or for you to explain things to me, especially if we've literally never interacted before. That behaviour is likely to earn you a block.

For lightbulbs that are supposed to last like 10 years I sure have replaced a LOT of LED bulbs that I installed in the house we've only lived in five years.

The idea that AI is going to do such amazing things always makes me laugh when I use Microsoft products and they a) can't tell what language I am working in and b) the predictive text that was turned on when I got the new computer is so wildly wrong it would be like allowing my emails to be written like Mad Libs. Today it finished my sentence "I hope you had a nice..." with the word "Thanksgiving". It's July, so that is either three months early or nine months late.

In my office we moved to an assigned workspace model and it is ASTOUNDING how much less I hate coming into work now. I wouldn't have guessed that. The novelty might (probably will) wear off but I think a lot of it was that it was just so much more energy before, the uncertainty of whether your preferred desk was in use, plus having to always move your stuff onto and off of your workspace every time.

How weird that it was never just about trans women but really part of shifting the window of acceptability to control all women? Who could have ever predicted besides basically everyone? https://www.transiticsnews.com/p/after-pushing-anti-trans-laws-to

@dairpo@ottawa.place It also helps me to actually LISTEN to the meetings. I get way more out of them than if I have to pay attention through interminable pointless questions.

@dairpo@ottawa.place YES. That is exactly it. During a series of meetings on one of the reporting things I do I took several of them from the skateway.

I just had a "listening" meeting and spent it happily fixing my two strands of solar mushroom lights, snipping and stripping wires, popping on heat shrink tubing, joining them together by twisting and solder, and then heat shrinking the tubing into place. Much better than my actual job.

They don't seem to have it on their calendar right now, but the Soldering for Small Electronics Repair workshop that the Ottawa Tool Library offers is so useful.

It wasn't quite about repairing but more about how to rejoin wires with solder. Since taking it I have been so much more confident fixing my little wired things (mostly solar-powered string lights) to get more life out of them.

@Kellyshenanigans@yeg.bike It's also weird that that's still the question now when menstruation cups and underwear are fairly common. For me that question would make no sense because I think in terms of the size of my Diva Cup and have actual mL knowledge - and only realized recently when I compared that to online sources that the first day or two of my period is abnormally heavy and abnormally painful.
