When my youngest turned 13 this weekend I created a venmo account. This is one of the things he looked forward to the most about being 13. After I did this, Venmo suspended my entire family’s accounts. What a thrilling birthday present to him!
My youngest had friends over for his 13th birthday last night. How do 13 year olds really party? They started assembling a desk.
It’s been a couple weeks working on Kandili, with several updates and plenty more testflight builds. Here are my findings:
1) The App Store is 100% as inscrutable as it’s reputation.
2) Building apps is very fun. I get it now.
3) I’d forgotten how fun it is to have a little fun side project all my own.
At long last, @lexfri@hachyderm.io and I covered the finale of Sports Night, but worry not my friends, we are not finished with Sorkin’ In It just yet.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been making an iOS app called Kandili. It’s an app that brings to life the Orthodox liturgical calendar, readings, and feast days; with custom typography and handcrafted design. I just heard about another company using take-home design assignments as a part of the interview process. This spec work is unethical and a terrible way to evaluate candidates. Immediate red flag. Get your free ideas somewhere else, bozos.

Monday was my last day at Chewy. Taking a couple weeks before starting the *next thing*. My list of things to do in the in-between times is long, so not too worried about getting stir crazy.
