@anildash@me.dm to be fair, the current "AI" (ignoring simple copy-paste functionality for chatbots) is just local models doing actually useful things like naming your tab groups and suggesting more to add there, translations, and such... don't see anything bad in that. Though they really should already have text to speech and speech to text in 2026, idk where their priorities at😂

On one hand, screw the clown reaction, on the other - points have been completely devalued now. The only way to get them is through purchasing the games now, which puts people in countries with regional pricing and only mean to receive games through reselling, at a disadvantage. At this point maybe just make the reactions free 🤷‍♂️

@4censord@unfug.social the images are indeed always different in hash because each instance also has its own image quality settings, as far as I understand. however the images that I have tested have about 99.9% visual match, so would easily be qualified as the same, and thus as spam @KevinMarks@xoxo.zone @Gargron@mastodon.social

@rauschma@fosstodon.org if you are using pnpm, there's shell-emulator configuration option: https://pnpm.io/cli/run#shell-emulator It lets you DEFINE_ENVS=before script like you'd do in regular POSIX shell. Yarn does use it by default. Kinda wish npm adopted that (probably as an option, to stay backwards compatible).

@ravenonthill it's more like, not about ‘attitude’, but about ‘FOSS developers are first and foremost developers, they write code and make things work, but they're hardly UI designers or UX engineers’. Open source designers is a rare sight expect when the open source project is funded by a big corpo like Microsoft. Like, Mastodon spent money on design team, and official mobile apps + joinmastodon ended up looking good enough. Nobody would've done these designs voluntarily. @kissane

@aurynn don't cry about paywalls and subscription nags when you see them, they're a consequence of your actions that you shrugged off as not your problem and encouraged people who can't be bothered about ads to use ABs :P

I tend to avoid sites that blast you with ads or keep AB enabled if I literally have to us them and there's no alternatives, but I'm fine with whitelisting sites like Duolingo where ads are pretty non-intrusive (and at times funny). For some sites I'd also buy subscriptions, but then, well, things happened, so it's not an option for now. I also don't skip sponsors on YT for creators I like, instead just setting speed to ×2-4. You don't die from seeing a few ads :P @warrioroflatte @aurynn

@warrioroflatte I don't think these companies have any choice. Modrinth tried several ethical and privacy friendly networks and 1) they're blocked by ad blockers 2) they don't pay s--t. So they were forced to make their own ad network (Adrinth), that doesn't track anything but views, solely to sustain themselves until subscriptions come in. Also guess what? Someone specifically targeted them and PRed to ad block lists to the point of breaking the site 👏 @aurynn

@aurynn and nobody owes your entitled self anything for free. Human work must be paid, hosting has to be paid, investments have to be paid back, etc. Everything in life costs money, and ads is one of the ways to earn them without locking down the service behind paywall. I'd agree that more ethical or integrated approaches are better, e.g. sponsored articles, but that's rarely an option. Most people wouldn't subscribe unless forced, many don't understand the importance of donations.

@bramus@front-end.social fun fact: this is a regression in UX.

Previously clicking that button would open a popup asking you to enter your handle (though you could also just enter @@mstdn.social for example and it'd still work) and it would redirect you to your instance. People even created extensions that would automatically redirect you to your home instance.

I believe this UX regression was caused by switching from static pages generated (the same as in settings) to unauthorised web app.
