#CodeGals I just thought about a few code gals :
- Fortran is a grandma wearing lab gear. She does not think about retirement and just continues to work in her lab.
- COBOL is another grandma, wearing a business suit, and looks at all other languages like a child, except Fortran. She is a bit bitter because she could never leave banking though.
- Julia is athletic (like a sprinter). She likes to hang out with R and Python, and also looks up to C, C++ and especially Fortran.
- R is a shy girl, with big glasses hiding her face. She works in science and wears a lab coat.

@MaximeCombes@piaille.fr le pire avec cet etrait, c'est que leur système était déjà en place à l'époque, avec elle au coeur du délire, non ? Fallait pas avoir les genous qui tremblent si c'est le cas

Yesterday, I watched this video https://videos.assemblee-nationale.fr/video.18843051_69fb3ac192f70.vulnerabilites-systemiques-dans-le-secteur-du-numerique--table-ronde-sur-le-logiciel-libre-6-mai-2026 with @renchap@oisaur.com where he explained how public administrations just want an access to the service, not operate it and it grinds my gear so fuckin much

@ohmu I think that if you are depolitised, the argument of security can work because occidental software engineers are mostly white hetero cis dudes (at least in France) and upper working class, with capital to defend, and everything is just a technical problem to solve, nothing else.

@tante@tldr.nettime.org I just red a book about engineers feeling cognitive dissonance (*Lettre aux Ingénieurs qui doutent*, Oliver Lefebvre) and it reminds that human societies craft tools that mold them back. The example of the car is a strong one with now car centric infrastructure. Then what do we do with this ? The book does not offer a solution and is not about finding a solution, but introducing the social issues to engineers that they may face in their lives. As usual, the root lies in capitalism, but we need to find a way to create better tech, and know when we should not work on a solution that would be pre empted by capital.
