I can’t resist venting about the open call for oligarchy here. How does Tobi look his friends and colleagues in the eyes and say that he should get more votes than them? I used to know and respect him. What an incredible demonstration of the corrupting effects of extreme wealth.
This weekend in Ucluelet, we showcased the Caterpillar 3208 210HP we took out of Nootka Princess, beside the 300HP-continuous electric motor we're replacing it with. Turned out to be an incredibly effective and surprising visual comparison.

@Flux@wandering.shop for me personally and a lot of the people I’ve worked with, the tradeoffs it makes - most especially the lack of generics - cause a ton of friction. They’re good, thoughtful, thoroughly considered engineering tradeoffs, but haven’t been the right ones for the contexts where I’ve worked.
That said, and deeply ironically: having assistance from LLMs can smooth over a lot of that friction…
I read this immediately after reading a blog post claiming that Go was the perfect language to target with LLMs.

So weird - someone impersonating me called the boatyard where I’m hauling out the catamaran soon to cancel the appointment.
I live a pretty transparent life and I realize that can lead to abuse, but wtf? So creepy.

Yesterday, for convoluted reasons, I had coffee aboard a 110’ sailboat with a single liveaboard resident.
I cannot conceive of why someone would think it’s appropriate to dedicate such a giant machine to one person.
I suggested that he compare liveaboard notes with his neighbors @neauoire@merveilles.town and @rek@merveilles.town but he didn’t seem interested.

Roughly speaking, I’d consider funding you to work half time on the Rust compiler, and half time on compiler-shaped problems in some CAD research I’m leading.
