1800 years ago, during china's three kingdoms era, there was a warlord named cao cao who was extremely ruthless, cunning, and backstabby. in english, we say "speak of the devil and the devil arrives," but in chinese, they have the same exact saying, it's just that cao cao is the devil. however, he was also recorded to suffer from terrible headaches, and eventually died of a brain tumor.

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space i have done a small amount of research into how this could be done. you can definitely go with https://commoncrawl.org/ to start out with, instead of crawling sites yourself.
i feel like the governance and funding is the bigger issue, though. search engines become shit when they become ad engines. if i were to operate something like this, it would either have to be a money sink hobby thing i give only to friends, or an explicit "pay a subscription for access" type thing.

i feel like this is really really bad for nixos and several gnu projects especially. because they often render their manual and reference pages as one giant html page and the search engine just doesn't index those even though those pages have all the docs you need.
i hate that when you look stuff up in search engines, they don't just send you to the documentation pages, they send you to some seo bullshit blogs that are of zero value
