It's #backupfriday and I just collected a package with some 10 Gb network gear - it is a bit early as the installers only finished the cable trays in the building this week, and there is still some digging to be done until the building is fiber-connected, and after that my apartment has to be connected as well... Unfortunately the access point I ordered is advertised as having at 10 Gb ethernet port, but on the box it says it only has 2.5 Gb, so I'll likely have to return it. If you have any recommendations for #wifi accesspoints that have #10 GbE, I'm all ears. Do I need my local network to be 10 Gb ethernet when I am upgrading from the venerable copper connection, currently yielding at whopping 40 Mb down and 10 Mb up, to fiber? You're right, I don't. But since one of the ISPs is advertising 5 Gb over the fiber and as I am upgrading (/able to upgrade) for the first time in 10-15 years, why not try how the maximum speed feels? I don't want the LAN to be the bottleneck, so 10 Gb it is.

You'll have to look far and wide to find a more #1990's #music video than the one for "Volcano Girls" by #Veruca Salt.

That guitar playing - what a song.

This #backupfriday is what in Sweden is called a "klämdag" - a work day squeezed in between two days off; following the example of the Swedes I took the day off.

In non news, nothing has happened on the fiber side since the week they got half way down the street. We will see if it ever reaches my building.

I really like using C-x 8 RET in Emacs to write unicode characters that I don't remember a short keystroke for.

C-x 8 e i and C-x 8 e l are nice for adding emojis.

I have not found an easy way to type a flag, given the country name (code or tld). Is there one?

Maybe C-x 8 e f could prompt for a country name/code/tld and insert the appropriate flag emoji?

C-x 8 f gree TAB to enter 🇬🇱, for instance.

WANKING INFRASTRUCTURE: when somebody decides that to automate this process, a whole new bunch of systems and tools need to be installed, configured, and put into production, and so much time is spent on this, that no work is done solving the actual business problems.
