Change in the US will happen out of necessity when the US does try to do this but can actually receive pushback but much of it will have to happen because average people take up the call to build something better. The movement is growing every day. I am optimistic that over enough time and with enough deliberate action anything is possible. Maybe not in my lifetime but that’s the fight I’ve committed myself to and it’s a righteous one.

Right I think a lot of this is going to collapse and STILL the US will be one of the most powerful countries. That is how disgustingly evil we have been at suppressing the rest of the world. Once our oppressive boot is less potent there are some beautiful developments in this world waiting to happen.

A multi polar world will surely emerge. The empire will crumble slowly and gradually cede power to other forces. I think the reality is the US will still be one of the most powerful countries but in a world where they seriously have to operate in diplomacy and not just imperial shows of force will be a net positive for the world overall. Unless the US does the thing where they decide to violently lash out (as empires do in the past collapses) and nukes the world a few times over. I don’t think this is likely but also it is assuredly not non zero which is insane.

I disagree mostly in the name of being specific with my words. Most people who espouse these politics in the US are neolibs who balk at having to alter their lives in any way to achieve those goals. They agree with policy like that right up until they have to do their part and help pay for it with their taxes. Not saying these are your politics btw in case that wasn’t clear.

They’re vaguely defined by design in the US. It makes it easier to condemn an amorphous blob of vague ideas that ranges from centrist liberalism to anarchy than to actually have to engage in substantive arguments. Especially when all the existing structures that be fall in line to convince the masses of it. To me leftists begin at being anticapitalist. I ask the question because its hard to even really know what “leftist” would be on Rumble. That platform is 1) for pedophile Nazis and 2) botted to hell and back. You’re not getting through to people genuinely on Rumble - it’s the Twitter of streaming platforms (maybe second to Kick idk).

Any serious Marxist of course values the international perspective as it is a fundamental part of the emancipation of all members of the working class. We cannot achieve a communist future without doing full and complete global revolution. Is an international coalition possible within the constraints of capital today? Personally I want to optimistically say yes because we’ve seen international solidarity change the winds on issues like Gaza in the advent of our more connected world that I think few of our intellectual predecessors could have ever expected or imagined. We still have a fucking lot of work ahead of us though. Compare the power and vitality of socialist movements across the world during the Second International and to see what I mean. In the lead up to WW1 socialism was a real tangible movement with real power and influence the likes of which no one in the modern western world has ever seen. We need to get back to that and it’s going to take time still unfortunately. I am of the mind that we should follow the examples Lenin has left for us and we must necessarily engage with the structures around us that exist today to proliferate our message to as many minds as possible. Even the structures that we as socialists rightfully declare as vestiges of capital, as long as the masses engage with them and believe in their validity we just engage with them as well. It is our job to inculcate them to the evils of capital (of which many are already tuned into on some innate level to begin with…many just need a push in the right direction to get their political development kick started) and to show them that our struggle for freedom anywhere is inexorably tied to our struggle for freedom everywhere. From an electoral position, since we must necessarily engage with electoral and parliamentary structures to push our message and ideas and to be part of the conversation of governance, the emphasis on principled and accountable electeds becomes a prime concern. We must ensure we have electeds who are true representatives of the movement and who are ideologically committed to holding and maintaining a party line. We cannot have electeds falling to the whims of empire and capital and we must ensure these electeds convene and collaborate with the masses to ensure they are subject to the tribunes of the people. From a western perspective there must also be a considerable emphasis on decolonization to support international cooperation and freedom. Western powers exist as imperial holdings and the inherent hierarchy this creates as powerful nations subjugate weaker ones for their own gain must be done away with wholesale. Constitutions must be redrawn to ensure true democratic participation of the members of society such that everyone is given true agency and influence over their lives and the issues that affect them. Minorities must be afforded reparations for the systematic subjugation they have been subject to and we must work to ensure these structures can never manifest again. Undemocratic structures of governance (like the Senate in the US for instance) must abolished completely. There’s definitely more to say here and I probably would be smart to revise some of this (maybe later) but I gotta get to work lol I’ve only been doing real theory analysis with local comrades recently and while its been incredibly educational I definitely am still learning!

Olympic levels of mental gymnastics here if I’m being honest. You’re just wrong. Enshittification is about corporations putting more and more increasingly invasive forms of monetization on things we use in our lives. Often it is driven by market monopolization. That old content you want to view is often not available anymore OR is available behind additional paywalls (looking at you Nintendo and Sony). Its not about that old content becoming shitty necessarily but the overall state of the platforms we use being rather antagonistic towards their users to generate some more sweet profits. You should go read how Cory Doctrow talks about it. He invented the word. I’m using his definition not whatever you’ve decided it means to you to frame your argument.

The podcast industry is dominated by iHeartRadio. There are plenty of independent platforms but they have an outsized influence on the market which determines what kind of content wins and loses. Also fuck loads of ads which sucks ass. As an aside they have also ruined a lot of radio by buying up local stations and cramming them with ads too. Apps on iPhone are literally distributed by a single store with no options for side loading where they get to decide if you’re allowed to publish content and if you’re allowed to install it. Android is slightly less bad but they are moving in this direction currently and functionally a very small percentage of people ever leaves the Play store ecosystem anyway. Video games and micro transactions that plague so many games? Loot boxes and gambling? DLC for things that used to be free updates? You must be young and don’t remember how things used to be.

I’m not sure I have time to go into this completely but what you are describing as good has objectively been a death sentence to tons of musicians. Spotify is the biggest music streaming platform right? Did you know that they actually charge artists to be on their radios (you know the things they use dark patterns in their apps to drive you to)? You literally can’t be in the prime spots for visibility on the app without paying a tax to the company. Did you know that the music industry basically coerces artists into a system of indentured servitude where they are stuck in a debt trap with the large mega studios that got their album made (they also retain no rights to the master and essentially do not own their own work)? That price comes from companies squeezing out the variety in the music we hear to be just the shit that bangs the hardest in the most inoffensive and generic way to the most people. Depressing for that to be how art is made no? This is what Netflix is ALREADY doing. Rest assured your “value” will be realized in more ads and membership tiers they can stick on top of content they previous had to pay exorbitant licensing costs on. Rest assure it will be more middle of the road slop that Netflix is already famous for because its keep and just good enough people will watch it even though it is devoid of all kind of unique character. This merger will hurt the artists who pump out your favorite shows today. There is not a shadow of a doubt in my mind.
