I do get to experience force feedback through the #MOZA AB9 base when flying #DCS planes now, which is fantastic. However, thanks to extra effort put into the Mirage F1 module by Aerges, I can experience buffetting wing and stalls better in it than any other module. Very nicely done! Again, if someone gets MOZA Cockpit working in Linux then you'll be able experience additional force feedback effects like feeling the landing gear raise/lower, bombs dropping, guns firing, and additional aerodynamic vibrations through the stick.

Having done the impossible and played #DCS multiple times on #Linux, I quite literally have no reason to keep Windows around. The only hangups are:

• Escape from Tarkov anti-cheat
• IL2 visually freezing (but running fine behind the frozen screen)
• Moza Cockpit for the AB9’s force feedback
• VR

To be fair I rarely use my VR headset these days and Tarkov is painfully difficult to get into, so really I’m not missing much.

If I can figure out that bug with IL2 and pray someone makes a Linux-friendly driver for MOZA Cockpit (or replace it with a third party one), then I’m set.

To my knowledge, the first ever operating systems I used were Windows XP and OS X Tiger. But few know my first Linux Distro experience was CentOS 7 with a Gnome 3 desktop environment.

Btw I enjoy the services. The prayers and rituals are nice. It’s like an escape from the same old structure of my work week. It’s just the community for me is lacking what I need. Such is the struggle of being a young, single Jew with no desire to have children.

The subject came up over on Reddit and I couldn't help but ponder why I don't go to synagogue anymore.

Technically I can right now. My work schedule accommodates me attending a Friday night service. While I find the political aspect of our services grating, I enjoyed myself for the most part the last couple times I attended.

What gets me most is the complete lack of community for young adults. It felt lonely being 20-something in a room full of older adults I could connect to, but not on the same level as someone my age. Dare I say it felt like I was visiting a senior center every week. I guess I'm one of the few Jews in the region who felt that connection at my age, but never found that community outside of online spaces.

I’ve grown apart from DCS somewhat as finding myself with less free time as I mature in my career. The biggest barrier is the fact designing a scenario that’s somewhat realistic to dogfight or bomb is very finicky and time consuming. I can get creative but placing correct units is an opaque process.

DCS’s autogenerated senarios are laughably bad. Some make zero sense, while others are poorly balanced. Once in a while you’ll get an interesting engagement but more often than not it’s a simple 1v1 or 2v1 that lasts 10 minutes at most. Congrats you won go ahead and autogenerate all over again! I have the most fun with crafted scenarios in DCS but again, most of the time I’m the one doing the heavy lifting and creative strategizing for my friends and I. And the mission editor is archaic and very annoying to work with.

One of the benefits of IL2 is the fact there are scenarios that auto generate. Want to bomb a caravan? Hop in a Jug with bombs and go to town. We’ll spawn in more caravans in the area once you blow this one up. Want to blow up some Allied fighters? Hop in an Anton and shoot away with your wingman.

That game absolutely fucked me up when I played it, but Outer Wilds will always hold a special place in my heart.
