@Wolf480pl@niu.moe the biggest free software projects yes. But if you look at the total free software produced, the small unheard projects are outweighing the rest (long tail). My point is, this is evidence that people just don't slack off, especially when they are well fed and paid. This is not an oddity. Another example are Video creators. Most of youtubers don't live from their videos. Why do they continue then? The easiest thing to do would be to slack off. Why is that then?

@Wolf480pl@niu.moe you need to give them time. You assume that democracy = vote. Again, it doesn't have to be. Look at this video on sortition for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS9EMvbBq_U Note how much it stresses the importance for people to be given time and discussion about a topic.

@Wolf480pl@niu.moe this is a belief, where is the evidence of that on a larger scale? There a quite some counter-examples. Look at free software. Most free software is produced by people already paid by another company. And these people work on their free time. How so? Why are they doing that? Why don't they slack around? Do you really think people are compelled to do "their best" only when they are threatened by starvation?

@Wolf480pl@niu.moe democracy _today_ is indeed far from perfect.Do you prefer a system where there simply no democracy? This is what happens in company. Workers have no say in how things and why things work. Because the political power is held through lucrative private property (a.k.a the ones who own the company). Also democracy doesn't have to be reduced to elections. Elections are designed to appeal to emotions, not reason. It doesn't have to be this way.

@Wolf480pl@niu.moe by "doing their best" I assume you have innovation in mind? What parts of our daily lives are depending on innovation today? We're in a post-industrial world, we can produce enough food, energy and shelter for everyone without improving technology. Innovation have become a bonus. Why do we need people to "do their best", while they could do their average and everything would work as well. Efficiency assume there is a profit to made, not that everyone work in the same direction.

@Wolf480pl@niu.moe give an unconditional wage to everyone. Abolish lucrative private property (a.k.a owning a company for yourself.) Share the wealth produced among everyone following two parts: wages and investment. Investment works on a democratic basis. On a macro-economic scale it's quite easy to do: take the GDP of any country. Take a part for wages (ex. 60%), the rest is for investment. This gives you an average wage and an investment fund for the n+1 year.

@Wolf480pl@niu.moe if you want to continue with the analogy of gravity, sure. But that's not really helpful. Suggesting that capitalism is like gravity (or other force) suggest it is a law of nature, something that can't change and have to be dealt with. By doing so we give up the idea that we can have a democratic and sensible organization of the economy. This is terrifying in itself. What I have in mind is a particular brand of communism.

That's like trying to keep a tumor inside a human body, because it might stop being a threat to it, at _some_ point. Regulations are just patches,they are not solving the problem once and for all.

The functions of capitalism leads to child labor, mass surveillance, and environmental disasters. This is empirically observable. Does it mean capitalism is broken? No. Not for the goals it is trying to achieve. Is it a tragedy for humans? Yes. But that's two different things.
