The #sailfishos #mastodon account integration plugin is now merged to devel and will be included in SailfishOS 5.2, maybe even installed by default. Mastodon out of the box!

@kokorins@fosstodon.org Sure, the Sailfish Browser uses Gecko as its web engine because too many browsers use Chromium. It's a descendent of the Maemo browser, back from when Gecko had Qt support built-in. That has since been removed upstream, so Sailfish OS has been maintaining that and embedlite, which is quite a lot of work so over the years it's fallen behind a bit. @flypig@mastodon.social did the last bump to ESR91, and this one means we're sort-of on a still supported Gecko, which hasn't happened for a few years.

Everyone seems to be getting their new #pebble except me. So Rockpool for #sailfishos is going to have to wait until I do, especially as the official app has stopped even trying to use BLE with the og watches. I guess the more stable they get that, the less work I have to do to replicate it on a proper operating system.

@frankps@mastodon.babb.no I think that'll happen when it gets included in the official repos, through the community translation service.

@juanejot @pocketvj The community ports are usually the place to look for ports based on LineageOS. I found this: https://xdaforums.com/t/sailfishos.4731404/ Those guys usually do pretty solid ports for Sailfish, and maintain them for a long time.

@nobodyinperson @juanejot @rubdos That stuff might possibly need the same Wayland extensions that just got merged into Lipstick and should be in the next release: https://github.com/sailfishos/lipstick/pull/69 That's been needed for a long time. To run GTK apps like native Firefox...

@juanejot Yeah it can be frustrating waiting for email info from Jolla, but remember that they're a small company who are having to ramp up to this unexpected level of interest very quickly. The community (Forum, IRC, Matrix or Telegram) is probably the best place to ask any questions you have. But: It uses RPM packaging. Get the SDK and emulator if you want to check out the OS. It has a really good built-in Nextcloud integration.

@ilpianista I do agree, though they all have their place. I can't put Quickddit on Chum because it needs to be built with a secret (API key), and if it still broke the harbour rules I could only put it on Openrepos. I thought community ports got Harbour access though? Chum exists for apps that can't abide by all the restrictions of the harbour.

Vibe coding is making it possible for people with very little experience to build apps. QML on #sailfishos is simple enough to support that, but the cross-platform packaging side with the SDK is still pretty tricky.

So I put this together:
https://github.com/abranson/build-sailfishos-skill

Install into the Codex home of your IDE, and it will know how to build and package your apps using Coderus' brilliant dockerized SDK. Hopefully it lowers the barrier a bit and helps more people turn their ideas into real apps.

Updated my #sailfishos port of the #FOSSASIA Badge Magic app to support sending multiple badges. You can either let them play in a slideshow, or cycle through them with the second button on the badge. Rudimentary animation!

https://openrepos.net/content/abranson/badge-magic

It's harbour compliant so hopefully it'll be in the Jolla store at some point.

If you don't have one of their nifty badges, they usually sell them here, though it looks like there are SSL issues over there right now: https://fossasia.com/
