New skill unlocked! I've successfully replaced the electric window mechanism in my daughter's car (Fiat Panda) - passenger side was pretty straightforward, hopefully driver's side isn't much harder.

With the current tech job market, how many people have heard of the HMRC P50 form for UK Employees?

It allows you to claim back some tax paid during your employment after 4 weeks of unemployment ( unless claiming employment benefits). It can be paid in a lump sum directly to your bank in a couple of weeks if you use the online process.

@schwa@mastodon.social I'm afraid they work well enough that they're unlikely to go anywhere.. roughly 5-10% conversion rate for domain names, which were often renewed for years.. adding up to noticeable chunk of our ARR. Sorry!!

@pndc@social.treehouse.systems I (along with about 100 others) spent a chunk of yesterday messing around on inflatables in a flooded quarry, although the water was 20 degrees, the differential between the water and air/direct sunlight and cooling effect of evaporation was very comfortable.. also cleared my sinuses very well jumping into the water from the top of some inflatables or the swing :) Off to the beach this afternoon, sea should be mid to high teens so ideal in 3/4mm wetsuit

@oclsc@mstdn.ca @aka_pugs@mastodon.social yeah, 10BaseT wasn't really anywhere much in the UK until the mid-90s or later - most of the networks beyond small 70s offices went from 10Base5/2 to Cat5, at least in my experience (offices, schools, colleges, hospitals) without changing or using the telephone cabling. Heck I had coaxial token ring network cards working in '96 for some legacy unix boxes I was messing with in my unix digs and again for some legacy data recovery in '98
