Important question: can we use weapons?

I assume that in a no-holds-barred fight for our/other peoples’ lives, weapons would be allowed.

In this case, yes, I absolutely would fight the komodo dragon. I may not have brawn, but I regularly MacGyver crafts from almost literally anything I come across (it’s practically a compulsion. You know how when you put on a bandaid, you peel off a bit of paper that covers the sticky ends? I mindlessly made a cootie catcher out of one of those the other day.) Everything could potentially be a million things! I figure that creativity could help me find something to help in such a fight. I’d just have to be careful not to get too sidetracked.

::: spoiler Oh?

Why yes, I do have ADHD! How did you guess? :::

I’m glad to see that the work of “Mommy” is included. She might not be getting paid, but she’s worked more in a single day than the landlord ever did.

I’m not a prescriptivist, there’s no denying that language evolves. In fact this might not have occurred if not for prescriptivist meddling in the first place. Notice that this phenomenon doesn’t happen when “I/me” is the sole subject of a sentence. I suspect overcorrection by teachers who insist on the “them and me” rule without explaining the nuance to subject vs object influenced a lot of us. I remember teachers heavily correcting instances of “me and so-and-so” to “so-and-so and I,” but it wasn’t clarified that it’s only for the subject of the sentence. Now we’re flooded with “it’s for so-and-so and I” perhaps because people got trained out of using “me and so-and-so,” even when “me” is the grammatically accurate pronoun to use. It’s interesting because pronouns are the only trace of noun case that English has left, which makes me wonder how long it will take for even that to ebb away. We already see people misunderstanding “whom,” though I imagine that word’s on its last legs anyway. Word order is the gold standard for English as far as subject vs object is involved, and “Who is it for?” already feels more natural than “Whom is it for?” Perhaps this will become the case for “I/me” someday?

It’s the same how certain spellings give away Yanks trying to Larp as British

Or like that fake British post a week or two ago where a guy mentioned someone hitting his “fanny.”

Same boat. I work with small kids, oblivious to politics, full of hope for the future because that’s how they *should* feel. I clock in and lose myself in their version of the world for 8 hours a day. It’s no wonder why I’m actually happier at work than at home these days.

I have no idea what that screenshot is even saying. Which reminds me of the first time someone British called me a “wanker” and expected it to hurt me, but I just laughed. A word with no meaning to the listener holds no power over them. I trust you’re interpreting those comments correctly, but if they’re raging I’m sure not picking up on it. 😅

It sounds like you’re feeling the way I do when I ovulate. Congratulations! Welcome to the deep feels club. Wait til you see happy children on a playground. Laughing, playing, enjoying life for its own sake. They radiate a joy that can overwhelm my tired, sore heart, leading to happy tears.

I asked this same question to my older coworkers back when I was 20. The main answer I got was: travel, travel, travel! “Travel before you have kids.” “Travel before you start a long-term career.” “Travel before you buy a house.” Naturally, being a Millennial, all three of those things became non-issues. 🙃 So let me give some advice for the ages instead, regardless of what the future may hold for you: • Never stop learning • It’s okay to not know what you want to do with life • And, especially in a post-truth, AI-infested world, question everything! Take the time to learn what logical fallacies are (at least the common ones.) You WILL encounter them, and knowing when you or someone else is using faulty logic can keep you from harm, whether it be from another person (like what we see in politics) or from yourself (like the “Sunk Cost Fallacy,” which might otherwise lead you to stick with bad jobs, bad relationships, and more.) Tangentially, it’s okay to say, “I don’t know.” Nobody knows everything. Anyone who expects you to know any given thing isn’t someone worth the admiration of. People with realistic expectations will see you as genuine, and being genuine can carry you far. I could probably think of more if given the time, but those are the most important things off the top of my head. I’m open to questions in the comments; I’ve lived quite a peculiar life, so I’ve got a range of experiences, from being a homeless vandweller, to being a pilot, to pivoting 90° and working with kids. I’m more than happy to answer any questions that might people out.
