I didn't explain my point nearly well enough. I was trying to get across that law enforcement tend to be center-right to far-right assholes, and the pattern to date is that when investigating someone with a known left-of-center political opinion, they have a habit of turning the most marginal evidence into a case. (Including, in the U.S., the state attorneys forcing innocent people into plea deals by threatening to extend the charges to their also-innocent family members, and the police sometimes even eliciting false confessions from people trying to stay clear of themselves being charged as complicit.) By all means, go after people who harm others. That's what the criminal side of the legal system is *for*. But the rights everyone has are the least that anyone has. Otherwise, the already existing selective enforcement will come for all of us.

@camstonefaux @JessTheUnstill Exceptions made to go after the extreme right will be used against the middle-left. It's not an easy balancing act, and intrusions should get case-by-case scrutiny.
