It's worth remembering that Signal Messenger is not designed to help us get away with crime.
I see its key purpose being to force law enforcement to follow the law, and get warrants before searching property.
Secondarily it also inhibits the surveillance abilities of filthy corporations who don't deserve to have data about us.
I don't condone Apple's design choice here to keep notifications forever, but anyone who thinks Apple has our interests in mind are cult followers.

With all due respect I'm as old as many here and clearly remember: from day one in the 70's our brains boggled that it was episode 4. We immediately craved prequels from the start, for decades (which we got even if a bit disappointing). And the first thing you read right after the horns sing the intro fanfare is the title of the chapter. A new hope.

This is not the victory we are looking for. We must keep pounding companies like this.
A) 99m into a "fund" is pathetic peanuts for these billionaires. It is a rounding error on the money this abusive crap earns them world wide.
B) The good behavior ends in 10 years and is limited scope
C) It has no effect on their monopoly status, bolstering sales actually.
D) They walk away with "no wrong doing" on the court record.
It resembles a bribe to the plaintiffs to STFU. 🤔

As a decades long Firefox user who's seen all their screwups, my take is that the mozilla team today are feckless cowards who are too dumb and cowardly to see the gaping market gap that needs filling: a humanist browser that doesn't ride the bullshit stochastic parrot hype train.
They have also in their history soared to great heights and fallen to great lows and are terrified of revenue loss.
They must return to their roots to survive IMHO.
