@iro_miya@mk.absturztau.be i’ve always suspected it’s a game for people who want to take walks but feel the need to be doing something at the same time to justify it and don’t have a dog

@spook@pleroma.m68k.church There's a good intro to scheme by @spritely@social.coop at https://files.spritely.institute/papers/scheme-primer.html Racket isn't quite a scheme but is pretty close and has some nice features, including a lot of support for creating domain specific languages with Racket back ends, if that interests you.

@cwebber@social.coop i’m always sad when ML doesn’t get mentioned in these contexts. i find myself thinking “i wish i was writing this in ML” pretty often. more often than Lisp and certainly more often than Haskell.

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social @kernpanik@chaos.social the system is weird. commercial publishers make money while the people who do all the work, authors, editors and reviewers do that work for free. The first two groups at least get credited and this helps with academic promotion and such. reviewing is anonymous though so there’s no incentive to do it well, or indeed at all.
