🔥 Europe is currently baking under increasingly extreme heatwaves, yet governments and gas companies continue fossil fuel extraction Today, Scientist Rebellion joined @extinctionrebellionnl@mastodon.nl as rebels once again blocked gas extraction sites across the Netherlands. The science is clear: stop new gas drilling.

April 26 marked 40 years since Chernobyl. We joined the final leg of De Luchtfietsers’ 8-day ride to Borssele, raising awareness at proposed nuclear sites.

Scientist Rebellion stood in solidarity; Marjan Smeulders spoke against nuclear expansion and its long-term risks.

From Chernobyl to Fukushima, nuclear isn’t simple or clean. We call for real solutions: wind, solar, reduced consumption, and systemic change.

Climate change isn’t just environmental, it’s a justice issue.

Most CO₂ comes from wealthier countries, while the worst impacts hit those who contributed least.

We emit 38bn tonnes a year; half stays in the atmosphere, driving warming.

What we emit locally becomes a global problem.

How fast is the planet warming? Faster than we thought.

A new study in Geophysical Research Letters finds 98% certainty that global warming is accelerating. At the current pace, the 1.5 °C Paris Agreement limit could be reached between 2026 and 2029.

The window to avoid 3 °C warming is closing fast.

This week at Radboud University, along with @sciforfuture_NL@climatejustice.global and the Vegan Student Association we responded to a call from No Waste Army and handed out 120 rescued pumpkins.

Saving food from waste is climate action. We were also able to have conversations about the climate crisis and plant-based catering at Radboud University.

This isn’t about taking away freedom of choice. It’s about taking responsibility in a climate emergency.

Today a record-breaking 85,000+ people joined the #klimaatmars in Amsterdam! Among them were 200+ scientists who also refuse to remain silent.

The science is clear, and so are the demands of those who showed up today: we need immediate climate action!

As well as scientists in lab coats, there will be a procession of professors in gowns. There will be a lecture by @erikvansebille@scicomm.xyz, an IPCC reading marathon and talks with striking school children.
