Real-time collaboration in Jupyter Notebooks isn't just for humans anymore.

At JupyterCon, Zach Sailer, and Abigayle Mercer from Apple demoed AI agents working directly inside notebooks, contributing code, documentation, and visualizations based on what's already there, without the back-and-forth of a chat interface.

𝐧𝐛-𝐜𝐥𝐢 is a new open-source CLI that lets AI agents work with Jupyter notebooks programmatically: no running server needed. It's built in Rust and includes an LLM-optimized output format that cuts the token noise of raw .ipynb JSON.

Worth a look if you're building agent workflows around notebooks.

The Jupyter Book project just documented how they serve content from four different repos under a single domain, using Netlify rewrites, MyST's extends: config, and a new 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑙_𝑑𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠 option.

Worth reading if you manage multi-repo documentation!

MyST Markdown now supports interactive JavaScript widgets with the new {𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁} directive.

The directive uses the same 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿({ 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹, 𝗲𝗹 }) interface as anywidget in Jupyter notebooks, so existing widget authors can reuse their work directly in books and articles. mystmd bundles your ESM and CSS modules at build time, and the feature works without any Jupyter kernel.

The implementation started at SciPy 2024 and has been upstreamed into mystmd and Jupyter Book 2.

nbgitpuller v1.3.0 is here with a much-improved error UX!

If you use Jupyter to share notebooks with students or workshop attendees, this one's for you.

Errors now come with friendly, context-aware messages and actionable buttons: no more staring at a terrifying terminal wondering what went wrong.

Jenny Wong breaks down the data behind the changes and what's new in the latest release:

Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS) has rejoined the mybinder.org federation, contributing a new node on OVH Cloud alongside 2i2c and GESIS.

When Hetzner object storage began failing, the BIDS node stepped in and handled 50% of global traffic: serving 64,000+ users without disruption. This is exactly why distributed infrastructure matters for open science tools.

#JupyterLite Officially Joins Project Jupyter!

🌟 JupyterLite, the lightweight, browser-based Jupyter distribution, has officially become part of Project Jupyter. This is a major milestone for accessible, no-installation-required data science and education.

With JupyterLite, you can run Jupyter notebooks directly in your browser - no server, and no setup. Whether you're teaching, prototyping, or collaborating, JupyterLite makes interactive computing more scalable and more accessible than ever, anywhere in the world, in Python, R, GNU Octave, and even C++.

This milestone is the result of years of hard work and innovation. A huge shoutout to the incredible team at QuantStack - Jérémy Tuloup, Martin Renou, Thorsten Beier, Isabel Paredes, Ian Thomas, Anutosh Bhat, and Johan Mabille - as well as community contributors Nick Bollweg and Agriya Khetarpal.

As part of Project Jupyter, JupyterLite will benefit from deeper collaboration, innovation, and growth. The future of interactive computing is brighter than ever! This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the support of QuantStack, Bloomberg, the Gates Foundation, and the Jupyter community.
