@alexcox@mastodon.social Have many VHS-C & Hi8 videos of 1990’s Christmas mornings with children opening such presents. Ha to smell of styrofoam, never noticed it from behind the camcorder but I’m sure my children would remember it.

@agiletortoise@mastodon.social Remember the 1970’s roasts of famous 1940-50’s actors & comedians, think there was one of Ronald Reagan too. If you were old enough to remember the people at the roast it was amusing television, today I can’t imagine how I watched so many of those 🙁

@sixcolors@zeppelin.flights Thanks, very ingenious program. The notch behavior changes on my M3 Max MBP depending on whether the computer is booted into its own screen or into a Studio Display (menus don’t display the same around the notch). I wonder how Bartender deals with that.

@sjvn@mastodon.social Good joke, but not funny about Space Black scratches. My Space Black M3 Max MBP does scratch too easily, sent it in for repair after a liquid spill & Apple covered the ports with plastic so they could plug & unplug devices without scratching it. No better example if even Apple has to avoid scratching a Space Black MBP 🙂

@luis_de_sousa@mastodon.social @ACM@mastodon.acm.org It seems impossible for the EU or any country to regulate how software is created. The end result is either a hardware product run by software or a software product delivered as a working system that users cannot change. No-one but the original program developer knows how it was created or maintained.

@shanselman Thanks, great article. Did much programming on original IBM PC in C & Assembler when worked in Switzerland in 1980’s, saved all my programs electronically instead of on printer paper. Same format with detailed explanations as with Tim Paterson’s code. Glad I could follow in the footsteps of giants 🙂

My only quibble is buy a metal stand to raise the Studio Display, don’t use books (I bought the height-adjustable stand for $400) 🙂

@simonharper@mastodon.social @KingShawn@mastodon.social @gedeonm@mastodon.social Americans, Canadians, & Mexicans used to be able to travel to all 3 countries without a passport, though that’s certainly changed now. Interesting about the Schengen Agreement, I suspected there was something like that. We lived in Switzerland so no EU travel for us, though as Americans we couldn’t have it anyway.

@simonharper@mastodon.social @KingShawn@mastodon.social @gedeonm@mastodon.social Europeans need a passport to go anywhere, or at least they did when I lived there in 1980’s. North Americans can travel 1000’s of miles (or km) without needing a passport so the percentage of people holding one is much lower.

@mikahsargent Ha, I don’t think that’s unusual. My parents generation of the 1940’s were brought up to be polite, in their day everyone was “Mr” or “Mrs” or “Miss” Jones unless they told you their first name (& that’s still true in many European cultures). We got over that but the rest of it stuck 🙂

Didn’t know anything about the younger generation then, weren’t sure they knew who Reagan was.
