Because he was born in Russia (wrote most of his music in Switzerland and is buried in Beverly Hills, and he may not be the perfect Democrat?). Are you going to forbid Wagner because A. Hitler liked his music? Isn’t culture the ideal bridge for understanding between nations? Isn’t culture the perfect antidote against dehumanisation and demonising of ‘the other’? I hate the war and Putin, but you telling me how ‘culture’ should be, what is ‘right’ culture and what is ‘wrong’ culture, just….yuck! And a very, very slippery slope.

@bartgroothuis@mastodon.online China heeft geleerd dat economische controle heel vaak belangrijker is dan militaire controle. De landhonger zal door China niet militair worden gestild; daar is geen harde aanleiding voor. China heeft bijvoorbeeld de haven van Vladivostok al goeddeels economisch onder controle en die economische controle / afhankelijkheid kan en zal verder worden uitgebreid, en de EU moet China daarbij vooral niets in de weg leggen. Voor dit moment zijn er - voor mij - belangrijkere zaken en ben ik blij dat mevrouw Kallas heeft aangedrongen op versterking van de EU marine-schepen om in elk geval de de poort der tranen, Bab el-Mandeb, باب المندب open te houden. Fun fact: باب was het eerste Arabische woord dat ik leerde schrijven. Ik ben helaas niet veel verder gekomen.

Ik heb het antwoord nog niet gevonden.

The European Parliament already is a toothless tiger at best and apparently now the European Commission considers 150 citizens much more relevant than the EU-parliament. Let's stay optimistic and solution oriented, shall we? I desperately would like to be able to vote for a Finish member of Parliament while being a Dutch national. The fact that I cannot do so, is deeply anti the idea of a European UNION.

Los daarvan; is ASML nu groot geworden dankzij een overheidssubsidie (die hebben ze ooit gehad, I know) of eigenlijk dankzij het ontbreken van overheidsbemoeienis? Want Veldhoven, dat was wel heel ver weg van Den Haag, nietwaar?

KIjk, Idi Amin mocht over de Rode Zee uitkijken nadat hij circa 300.000 mensen had vermoord, en der Kaiser vond een warm welkom in Doorn, Nederland. Ja, zo zijn wij😳 Maar er niemand die praat over hoe Putin zijn nadagen in Zwitserland of zo kan slijten. En waar hebben we het over; gemiddeld nog 10 jaar en dan is ie op een natuurlijke wijze overleden. Da’s niet eerlijk, maar heel veel beter dan doorvechten.

@RoosVonk tragisch dat een hoogleraar zich hiervoor leent en academisch geneuzel bovendien. Een van de echte problemen is dat G. Wilders wordt gezien als ‘een goede debater’. En dat zegt veel over het niveau van debatteren in de Tweede Kamer. Dhr. G. Wilders zou het afleggen tegen elke willekeurige winnaar van ‘n universiteitsdebatclubje, maar in de Tweede Kamer is hij ‘een goede debater’. En dan janken over fatsoen als je het niet op een reguliere wijze kunt winnen.

@bassjobsen @Matthijs85 Dat klopt. De PVV vond en vind het allemaal links milieu gedoe, en heeft helemaal geen moeite met gas en olie uit Rusland. En 1 op de 3 zittende Tweede Kamerleden in Nederland vind Rusland sowieso best oké omdat ze de Christelijke Waarden verdedigen. De EU in het algemeen en Nederland in het bijzonder is met geen honderd wake-up calls wakker te krijgen, dus ik ben ook wat allergisch te worden voor dat woord.

@JugglingWithEggs legal consultant here: with the federal decree number 33 in 2021 the Kafala system has been extensively reformed and curbed. That is not to say that there are no form of abuse but in a country with 10 million people from abroad you statistically always have them. I know the Government and private companies have paid hotels for influences and tickets too. I know that Emirates had influencers to promote the first class, but direct payment? As in salary?

@JugglingWithEggs Gaza is about as far from Dubai as The Hague is from Kyiv. And I really would like to see the paper trail of the payments. I’ve read it over and over again the government of Dubai is paying influencers but hard proof of those payments somehow never surfaces. If you would follow the money, I guess you would find that the majority of the influencers are (were) somehow in real estate deals.

@voorstad het artikel is niet 100% correct: als je met een pinpas betaalt waar V-pay op staat, dan lekt er geen informatie naar de VS. En ik heb nog geen single beter over die dan betalen we Nederlandse pinpas, laat staan een kaart met VISA of Mastercard logo. Hier komt ie…… Betaal cash. Los daarvan zit ik me sowieso af te vragen of het eigenlijk wel klopt. Want wat Apple Pay doet is de NFC inzetten om een CSR op te zetten naar de bank. Daarvoor moeten hoeven ze alleen het bedrag weten.

@EDPS every time you highlight the achievements of women specifically, there is a hideous insinuation that it is a special achievement since they are women. Highlighting the fact that it’s women is a boomerang that hit women in the neck. I hope I can make myself clear this way: Kathia Buniatishvili is not the best female pianist or earth, she is the best pianist on earth. Emphasising the fact of she’s a woman degrades her achievement. So stop doing this.

But since the French have insisted for too long that anything European should also be francophone and since the Irish didn’t step up after Brexit I feel your pain. There are some podcasts who try to fill the gap that that doesn’t do it. Until things change European leaders will turn to the Financial Times in London if they want to broadcast a message in the EU. Sad.

@moonglum allow me to disagree a bit. One group is moving away from big tech and moving to other centralised non-US big tech. The other group is trying to federate a ‘new digital world’ by preferring and aiming for homegrown independent federated solutions. Quite comparable with when the banking crisis hit. Alan Greenspan promoted tons of small banks and some of those would incidentally go bust. The people and policy makers decided otherwise.

A coherent energy & grid strategy
The demographic collapse & lack of labor mobility
A truly unified European capital market
The erosion of democratic legitimacy through the judicial expansion.

I’m saying this since 1993 and that almost got me fired. #nobackdoors And don't get me wrong I have nothing against good old-fashioned police work to hunt down crooks and criminals. (Unusually in the United States a judge is involved if keys are handed over. But we don't know for how long this will be the case. A lot of damage has been done already and this is only the first year.
