Queer, neurodivergent, disabled hurdy gurdy player and luthier. I play the hurdy gurdy and other folk instruments for human and land spirits, and live on a 36ft narrowboat. My music focuses on traditional Scandinavian folk tunes, with some medieval and renaissance music from France and England thrown in! I'm also experimenting with combining traditional instruments with loopers and drum machines.

A couple of notes or things to look a bit deeper into - one of your examples of a polka is actually a polska - this is a completely different type of tune with a very different rhythm and dance associated with it - it's actually much more common than polka in Sweden.
Second, you might want to look up the Hummel - it's a Swedish instrument that's the direct ancestor of the Appalachian dulcimer, so would be of specific interest to your friend!
