@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz I think your right, although AVR gives me the opportunity to explain and demonstrate Harvard architecture. I just don’t have a good RV32 board. Maybe in an FPGA, but that presents its own set of issues

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz I’m not sure that’s a great idea. I’ve been working closely with RISC-V for four years and there’s so much you have to explain from the ground up before actually trying to work with it. How would you do it if you were to start with RISC-V?

I was presented with the opportunity to teach a microcontrollers class this fall. Anyone have any recommendations for books to choose? Covering ARM seems like the obvious choice, but not the most straightforward option when it comes to the internal structure. I’m leaning toward AVR, because it’s basically a stock Harvard architecture and could cover ARM Cortex M once we’re done with the basics.
