Nobody sees him eating other muppets, so 100% ambush predator. No one knows what happens when the lights go off on Sesame Street. I assume it’s like My Friendly Neighbourhood, and Big Bird is the apex predator. Sometimes muppets just… vanish.

I taught my son to be a conscientious objector. I caught hell for that, especially in conversations in my very, very small town where many people sent their kinds into this meat grinder. I told my son he was too good for that, and some locals hate me for that. Like they thought I was saying my son was better than theirs. No, I just understand the system, and I’m not going to groom my kid to be chopped meat. You do you. That’s not beautiful to me, though.

I don’t like Veteran’s Day and I’ve been called out for that. I do respect and appreciate veterans for what they’ve done, but I cannot respect or celebrate the military complex that has thrown people into a meat grinder and then discarded them for decades, which is what that day represents. I cannot support these wars, where people are brainwashed, used, then cast aside, to benefit elites and politicians who will never feel that pain and will literally party when dropping their bombs. Fuck everything about that.

Yeah, IIRC when a bunch of large corporations got away with doing this in the 1980s and 90s, a lot of us just assumed it would keep happening. Some people have tried raising the alarm about this, but have been shouted down pretty consistently.

Owning a cybertruck is an indication the driver is a Nazi. It was always an indicator of very poor taste, but now it marks you as a Nazi. Don’t bother trying to change my mind. I know it, my cat knows it, the mould in that tupperware I keep putting off opening in the far reaches of my fridge knows it. No excuses now, and no bumper stickers will dissuade me. It’s been long enough, sell the thing or start sieg heiling.

I could see this meaning something more – and even something inclusive – if the environment is part of the design; for a moment I ignored the steep looking sand bank, but if that’s part of the art, that changes the meaning by a lot. That would make much more sense. I’ve lived places where the landscape changes a lot throughout the year, though, so I sort of ignored the background and took the bench itself in isolation. Maybe that’s where I fucked up.

But what this art says to me, as a wheelchair user, is something completely different because this design is the opposite of inclusive. Is that what is meant? This design says I should be excluded – taking it as art, this design communicates everyone having conversations and leaving me out, because that back bar will exclude me by design. If I’m to socialise, I should be on one end or the other, but that middle part means I’ll be artificially excluded by the environment. Is that what it’s meant to mean?

They couldn’t, though. Because of the space the back of the chair and the radius the wheels requires, the person in the chair would be sitting nearly a foot in front of anyone seated on the bench. e: look at the amount of space with my custom high-end and narrow profile chair (it’s even more space with the standard-issue chair): . Your head will be in line with the leftmost right dot if you’re relaxed. I backed my chair against a door, and that’s fuzz or something. That back bar prevents you from sitting ‘with’ anyone.

as well as practically. X doubt. This is worse than nothing, because (as a wheelchair user) there’s like 10 inches of clearance behind the chair (given wheel clearance). That back rail means you can’t back up to get yourself in line with your compatriots,so you’ll be in front of and misaligned with the people on either side, such that they’re literally talking behind your back. If this design was in earnest, it’s godawful and just shows the designer had no idea what they were doing. If it’s an art project, then I can appreciate it. If it was meant to be practical, it’s a major fail.

Well yeah, I get that. But there are plots for really cheap, but they don’t have any kind of access to water, sewage, or whatever. Plots for like 10,000 or less. That sounds like a lot, I suppose, but it isn’t. I think it’s more that people don’t understand how money works,

Of course I do. And again, that’s my point. People romanticise this, but it’s impossible for many reasons. You can easily try, but we have societies for a reason. Everyone is free to do this, but good luck in practice. It’s not just hard, and it’s not just stupid, but why the fuck would you want this? It’s insane, and we’re not geared for this. Life in the wilderness is not a Disney movie. It’s so ruthlessly difficult, that’s why society exists. We are stronger, safer, and happier together.

Yes, that would need to be the plan. One upfront payment then never paying for utilities or other things forever. That’s the only way this works. I think this is madness, but that’s how you do this.

Yeah, but the ‘nobody wants to be there for a reason’ is my whole point. It will absolutely suck for you. That’s why civilisation is better, and also why we have to make some concessions to be in a society. There’s literally no utopia where everything is perfect. There literally never was. If you want societal amenities, you have to pay for them in some small way, and if you don’t, your like will be very hard. Those have always been the choices.

You’d have to buy your own land, of course. But you could buy a tiny plot in the middle of nowhere, not hook up any utilities or have roads, and just live off your land if you wanted. There are small parcels in the middle of noplace that nobody wants because there are no roads, utilities, or other services.

So many people don’t understand why we live in a society, and apparently have no capacity for empathy. They’re free to go live in the wilderness, with no roads, no fire department, no water or electricity, no services whatever, and find out how much they’re actually benefiting from our collective. They won’t, because though they like to complain, they’re pussies who can’t be bothered to think for 5 minutes that the fact they can read and write their snarky bullshit is because they benefitted from free education, else they’d be illiterate. But gods forbid they pay back the overwhelming amount they benefit from society in a small way. It’s fucking infuriating.
