Uran wird zum großen Teil von Russland, ansonsten auf jeden Fall größtenteils von anderen Despotien und systemischen Konkurrenten wie der Vereinigten Oligarchie von Amerika kontrolliert. NUR regenerative Energie im europäischen Verbund kann uns davon unabhängig machen. Man müsste die ganze Republik mit Plakaten pflastern. ROBERT HATTE RECHT! DER hat uns ja auch in der bislang größten Energiekrise seit den 70ern den Rücken frei gehalten und dafür gesorgt, dass die Lichter nicht ausgehen. Reiche dagegen verkauft uns an den höchstbietenden und versagt auf ganzer Linie, wenn es darum geht in diesem Land Energiesicherheit herzustellen. Im übrigen kapiert Fritze Merz wieder mal nicht, was er sich mit der ans Bein gebunden hat. Jeder kann ihre korrupte Inkompetenz sehen. Und das fällt auf IHN zurück. Aber hey, der Blackrock Lobbyist hackt doch keiner anderen Krähe ein Auge aus...

Without him, the same shit of American oligarchy trying to rule the world would just go on and all the lazy people would still keep their eyes and ears shut as to ignore it because it's sooo "convenient" to have THEM decide over our freedoms and who gets our money. Luckily, Donnie has opened a lot of eyes at least a bit. Boycott America, buy European.

@MrLovenstein Yes, who hasn't had that American nightmare when they hear talking bribed conservatives about privatizing our healthcare services here in Europe. Luckily, other than in the American oligarchy, in real democracies, flawed as they are, representation cannot just ignore the people to serve corporations. And other than in the two party system from hell, politicians have to fear voters' choices. Let's keep it that way!

For authentication to our goddamn work accounts on M$, I use AEGIS. Or the standard authenticator on Linux Mint. Export/Import between the two works like a charm. And it could well be that we are moving away from microslob in the not so far future. Unthinkable not so long ago. Halleluja!

THAT's how to protect your digital souvereignty. Same with phones. Buy a Fairphone, install an OS like /e/OS on it (or buy it pre-installed) and enjoy the freedom from those megalomaniac tech giants who use your data to manipulate and oppress you.

You can give more weight to single candidates or strike out others, or just mark a party list which then gets all your votes distributed down their candidates. Every system has its ups and downs. In a FPTP system, forming a stable government is easier. In a proportional system, there can be many parties, and forming a coalition can be slow and difficult. But it represents the will of the people much better imho. This reminds me of what I heard in a BBC podcast series about German history from 2014, I think. Neil MacGregor, former head of the British Museum, said something very interesting about how differently the UK and Germany dealt with the multinational politics in the EU. According to him, Britain always had problems with that because coalition-building and compromises were never seen positively in a country with centralized power structure. Germany, on the other hand, throughout its history, except for the 12-year-millenium of the nazis, has always been structured federally, with often long and tiresome negotiations to find compromises. The same is probably true for regular politics. That one time Britain had a coalition government seems not to be remembered positively. ;-)

@dejaeghere@mastodon.social @katemorley@hachyderm.io Yes, imagine they had a system where nobody can win a "landslide" majority in parliament with a voter share that is LOWER than that of the parties in the OPPOSITION, as it happened with BloJo Johnson's majority. 42% versus 47% but 80+ seats over the seat majority. It could well be that Farage becomes PM with less than 30% of the national votes. I always find it VERY ironic that it was a BRITISH official of the post-war occupational administration who conceived the Mixed Member Proportional Representation election system that has served Germany so well over the past almost 8 decades. So well, that New Zealanders adopted it in the 90s when they were looking for a system to replace their antiquated English FPTP system with something to improve democratic participation. Seems like that was a BIG success. But hey, 2 or 2 1/2 party systems are SOO great. Like the ones that enabled Johnson or Trump to ruin their countries...

For people without imagination, that is the only measurable parameter for their "success". As if they could eat their banknotes, overvalued or not. Imagine US healthcare was suddenly organized and financed like in other industrialized countries. So, basically around half the costs with much better outcome. That alone would mean that the total GDP would fall by 5-10%. If you grow up in a place where only money counts, and where the value of a human existence is also only calculated in nominal monetary units, aka dollars, then would this not mean a total downfall of your world? As Robert Kennedy once said, garbage collecting adds to the GDP. Even wildfire adds to the GDP, because rebuilding costs money, money that is added to the GDP. However wasted it is. It adds up to the GDP. And now try to sell to such people the idea of having the GDP fall by several percent. Oligarchs would tell their workslaves, "It will ruin the economy, you will lose your jobs, it will destroy your pension. Birds will fall out of the sky. Jesus won't love you anymore." What would happen?

@Natasha_Jay Interestingly, as a German, I can understand quite a lot of the very old texts. But my mother had a PHD in English and French and knew a lot about old Germanic sagas and medieval German literature. So, that is nothing foreign to me. If you read anything from Walther von der Vogelweide, you will clearly see the similarities to the oldest texts. Words and grammar are recognizable, and if you can read one, you can read the other. But even in Shakespeare's time, you will find a lot of those common roots of our languages, and if you get used to the different spelling, the sound of it rings familiar. And as late as in Jane Austen's times, even the number format was still the same as in German, for instance, four-and-twenty and not twenty-four. After all, with all the lost grammar and words, modern English is just a watered-down version of old German. ;-)

Funny how two can do the same and mean something completely different. Here in Germany and much of Europe, showing your ID and proving you are a citizen is completely normal in the poll station. But this only works because registration at the place of residence is mandatory, resulting in everybody having an ID. Voting here is SOOO easy because you automatically get a notice in your mail 6 weeks before the next election telling you the exact location and the date of the vote. Nobody tries to take away that right, nobody tries to intimidate voters, nobody tries to make voting harder. Quite the opposite, there are significantly more poll stations per capita than in the states, and you never have to wait for more than a few minutes to cast your vote. Name changes like when marrying is no problem at all. Why should it be? Now, when the orange gangsters want to introduce the voting part of that system without implementing the registration part, it's very clear, they don't want to make voting easy. Only they can take a good system and use it to introduce more obstacles into the voting process. How disgusting these people are...

@kottke@mastodon.social Last time I checked something about my home country Germany a few years ago, the data was outdated by a decade or so, and much of the information was rather of questionable quality anyway. If that's the general level of accuracy, then it's utterly useless, and you could just read a 19th century travel guide. The idea that government decisions could be based on such an inaccurate source of information is rather troubling, I should say... Anyway, there are much better sources available, so there is hardly any reason to keep this inadequate thing online or even printed.

No wonder they run around like occupation forces in a foreign country, equipped like an army and brutal like the mercenaries they are. $75 bilion, that's more than most countries spend for their whole military. But hey, the USA spend even more than that on locking away the LARGEST prison population on earth, actually 25% of all the world. Kind of logical you need to fund the stormtroopers to fill these prisons with the same kind of money...
