Nerdy Daz thing - I set up Iray Server on my PC a couple of weeks ago, and I'm so happy I did.

It's queue functionality means that I've been able to complete 3 pages of my comic in one day (I've never managed to be that productive before).

Finally, I'm not a senior manager to any of these fucking people. I'm a manager, but some of them are senior to me, but since I'm the only person willing to tell people things they don't want to hear, they just lumber me with the task of saying no to things that are clearly fucking impossible instead of having the guts to say it themselves (or, having the guts to tell me they want to do it anyway).

And it's fucking enraging because: a) it's also part of a culture where we're in danger of people losing their jobs because we keep making financial decisions based on what is easiest to do operationally (not for staff welfare, btw, literally for "which makes me think less"). b) If you always say yes but do nothing, nobody fucking trusts you. c) You're paid more money, part of that is because you sometimes have to be the bad guy. Do it. Earn your fucking keep.

Okay, I have a problem with one aspect of our work culture: other managers will nod along with anything the team ask for, and then either do nothing, or make it my problem to be the bad guy.

It fuels a really toxic culture because it means that nobody feels listened to, and I'm always Jack the Bastard.

Someone just did it again, and what makes it worse is that it's someone who sat and fucking nodded along with me that we needed to stop doing it.

And a find thought for the day: I'm wearing a lot of layers and drinking a hot drink, but God, I feel so lucky that I'm indoors and that my home is a different temperature inside from the absolutely horrible cold outside.

@Steffi@toot.wales Thank you! To an extent, I was standing in for other people who couldn't make it, but it was amazing to congratulate the education team, who also attended and beat places like the British Library and (my nemesis) the RSC.

1) I made it to the venue despite the train cock up.

2) We won an award.

3) The table had FIVE complimentary bottles of wine (almost one per person) but the only non alcoholic drink was a single cup of tea or coffee offered after dinner.

4) It was amazing food.

@juergen_hubert@mementomori.social I think it's worth further study. I honestly think that you could easily map the exact same motifs between babies as changelings, and the sorts of stories that have been flying around for years in the 'Vaccines cause Autism' crowd.

@juergen_hubert@mementomori.social This isn't the first time I've heard this -- I can't remember if it was Bristol Uni or Bath (the cities are right next to each other, and their unis held folklore conferences within a few months of each other, which made me think of siblings trying to one-up each other) but I swear I've heard a paper given about this at some point (for all I know, it was you! I didn't know I was Autistic at the time, so I was more concerned with worrying about giving my own paper afterwards!)
