I don't stand behind any of it. We shouldn't even give them an inch IMO.

So if you’re telling your grandma you saw the same meme, could you say “J’ai vu le même meme, Mémé”?

It's like magic too, because any new weird kind of package manager I add, it's just picks it up and starts updating it. It can even update Windows apparently.

I use an unholy blend of paru, Flatpak, Docker and AppImage apps (no Snap!) with Topgrade to update it all.

I hate that we live in a world where a selfie is now an official form of ID. My bank wanted one the other day to use their app so I just deleted it lol, get fucked

I have a .scripts folder in home with a bunch of things. Most of them are for backups, aka they just rsync a bunch of things from different places into one place on my backup drive. I also have one called get_trailers that I can run in my Radarr folder which takes the names of any movie folders in there and uses yt-dlp to search and grab the trailers from Youtube and puts them in the correct folders alongside the movie.

I feel like Ubuntu used to be the sort of default “new user” distro, but they keep going off on these weird tangents so that doesn’t really work anymore. Then it felt like PopOS might have been the new one, but now they’re mid-way between transitioning to COSMIC so that’s not really a good fit either. I think maybe Mint is the default one now, but also Cinnamon is kind of it’s own thing so it doesn’t set a new user up well for becoming familiar with the more universally used DE’s like Gnome or Plasma. I think Fedora and Debian are also a decent fit for new users, but that’s also not a very exciting answer so that’s probably why it doesn’t come up as much lol.

I’m not sure if CachyOS counts as a “gaming” distro or not, but I use that on my desktop/work machine. I’m pretty familiar with Arch (BTW) and I can do a manual setup from scratch if I need to (that’s what my laptop runs) but Cachy just seemed like a way to use Arch with a simple setup and a bunch of default optimizations. So tl;dr laziness I guess lol.

I know this is off-topic, but Kathryn Bigelow is just an under-rated director in general I think. So many bangers. Also from a quick search I just found out she had a new movie out last year that stars Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson and Jared Harris? Somehow I missed that entirely.

I don’t think even George Orwell could have predicted that one day they’d put the cameras inside glasses, it would be common knowledge that they’re in there and the they’re spying on you and everyone you look at, and people would still voluntarily buy them with their own money and wear them around.

As a European living in Canada, it’s quite annoying to think about having to do extra stuff (even if it is very minimal) because one state in America passes a stupid law.

The researchers include people ETH Zurich and, Anthropic (parent company of Claude), and a research group called MATS and they proved that today’s super-powerful AI chatbots can play detective and unmask people way better than ever before. I know this is way beside the point, but I guess proof-reading really is dead huh?

Yeah that’s fair. And mine were pretty small scripts so easy enough to check, and I keep proper backups and whatnot so no big deal. But like I say I wouldn’t use it for anything big or important.

It’s like that old meme about how Luke is a desert farmer who is given weapons and radicalized by a bearded man in a cave, then goes off to a militia training camp and eventually blows up a government installation.

My favourite one (it happens a lot in the UK and I assume in other places too) is when people say things like “I support the cause but the protest is really disruptive.” Like no shit, that’s the entire point of a protest. They also sometimes complain about strikes being inconvenient for them. Oh, is this strike illustrating to you why this service is essential and it would be bad if it went away? One time when I used to be on reddit I had an argument with someone who was against a climate protest because it could have blocked an ambulance and gotten someone killed. But this was after the protest had already happened and that had not occurred. So you don’t support it because of a hypothetical disaster that you just made up, that already didn’t happen? People, man

Yeah pretty much! TBH for the first one there are already things online that can do that, I just wanted to test how the AI would do so I gave it a simple thing, it worked well and so I kept using it. The second one I wasn’t sure about because it’s a bit copyright-y, but yeah like you say it was just quicker. I wouldn’t use the AI for anything super important, but I figured it’d do for a quick little script that only needs to do one specific thing just for me.

Not OP but I made a little menu thing for launching VMs and a script for grabbing trailers for downloaded movies that reads the name of the folder, finds the trailer and uses yt-dlp to grab it, puts it in the folder and renames it.
