That's a negative on pretty much all you've said. Companies will keep growing. More people at the companies will max out at how much you can earn. No one will want to give all extra money to just paying taxes. Instead they'll take that extra money and it will get dumped back into the company. More buildings, expansion, more employees, higher pay and benefits, r&d, etc. they'll spend the extra money. You're talking as if someone who was making $5,000,000 a year would just be like "meh. Not worth doing this" This was actually fairly close to how things where in the 1950's when the US had everything going it's way (if you were white, anyhow). Tax rates on the wealthy where over 90% at one point for over $250,000. Back when you could work at a grocery store and own a home and a car and not worry about drowning in medical debt.

My hot take: Greedy rich companies and millionaires and billionaires will always try to take as much as possible from the consumer. Raising the minimum wage effects people that were making the minimum wage, and is less and less beneficial to those that were making more than minimum wage. If minimum wage jumped up by $5 to go from $7.25 to $12.25, anyone who was already making $12.25 isn't likely to get a raise to $17.25. But because all these people are making more, the wealthy will up pricing of food and housing and utilities in order to keep making even more. This means inflation also rises faster. So while it helps things in the short term, it does nothing to help people in the long term, and it also hurts people closer to or already retired because the inflation will make their fixed incomes worth less. So raising the minimum wage alone is a shit idea that only puts a short term bandage on things and the rising inflation means you'll constantly be "behind the eight-ball" and playing catch-up to keep trying to raise it as inflation keeps rising because the rich keep getting richer. The real fix needs to be lowering the top. Not raising the bottom. Tax the shit out of the wealthy with higher taxes as money made grows. Close the tax loopholes that let them hoard wealth. Make it so that so much of their money beyond like $5,000,000 in cash or assets increasing in value a year would be pointless to try and make because it would all just go to taxes. This will cut the legs out from under the wealthy and stop the needless ripping off of everyone else. If they can't hoard money and increase their monetary value infinitely then the money will start going to the places it should. The inflation would stop, and upping the minimum wage could actually keep things livable.

You don't know what jobs they cut. It was likely service offices and phone help and secretaries and maintenance people and commissioned sales people and such. They couldn't have cut 30,000 programmers and hardware engineers.

No one deserves that much money and I'm not arguing in favor of what they did. I'm just pointing out that getting rid of that many people is way, way, more than $30,000,000 on a payroll.

I assume most of the layoffs were in support roles and not the main coders or hardware engineers. I assume it was a lot of secretaries and intern level stuff and phone rep and sales people supplemented by commissions and cleaning crew and maintenance jobs. Probably shut down some service offices too.

All EV batteries aren’t “a battery that size”. They’re a bunch of small batteries all strung together. The “battery that size” statement you made is pretty much meaningless. It’s very much physically possible to charge a battery pack at mostly empty to mostly full in 5 minutes. The tech and chemical side of actually getting it done hasn’t quite officially happened yet. Battery charge\discharge rates are measured in “C”. One C is an hour for a 0 to 100% charge. So six C would be 0 to 100 in 10 minutes. That’s doable right now. You’d need 12 C for a 0 to 100% charge in 5 minutes. That has happened yet, but it’s getting pretty close. 11 C can be done to go from 0 to 80%. Likely, BYD’s charging statement is based for the regular layman such as yourself and refers to something along the lines of a charge from 10% up to 80%. As a side note, it’s also annoying having these “new EV battery has x amount of range” is dumb. You could get that range 20 years ago if you made the battery pack a lot bigger. What you need to know is the energy density and the size. Like 400 WH per kilogram is currently a really good capacity. Double what you could get from like five years ago.

That’s quite false, buddy. In fact it’s an outright lie. For Europe and for the US, so I don’t know where you’re talking about this “most of” is at. The EU bill was for a complete ICE ban by 2035, and the reversal that Germany was pushing for in removing that ban was for it to be a 90% emissions reduction instead of a ban. This was wanted by Germany for the sole purpose of still allowing hybrids after 2035. In shorter fashion: It didn’t include hybrids. Now it’s going to.

The funniest and dumbest part of this is how he doesn’t want the "radical left AI making military decisions… When what he was pissed about is the denial of anthropic in making the final military decision to launch missiles and fire weapons to kill. So he’s pissed at what was allowed, and he’s pissed at what wasn’t allowed?

In this instance, I’d say it doesn’t. The lockdown from COVID stunted a lot of development. Then the tablets and just that kids are always on a screen drive it home. That and kids and parents don’t care as much about failing grades, and the “no child left behind” has gotten about as corrupt and lazy as our government. Now it just means “your kids going to the next grade, regardless”

LFP is only typically about 15% less energy dense than NMC. You're dead wrong about EV manufacturers moving off NMC. LFP is cheaper to make and lasts way longer. Only the US has more issue, because we've pissed off everyone else and getting lithium can be a potential supply chain issue. The tax credit didn't get killed off until the end of 2025. Way after Amazon had already purchased the batteries from a South Korean manufacturer, that was chosen because they have a fab in the US and it was going to meet the EV full tax credit (this is well known and documented. Go see for yourself). You also don't know that everyone will buy the bigger battery option. The range is supposed to be like an extra 100 miles, but Amazon hasn't given price differences yet. If the base model is $25k, but the extended range model is over $30k, the smaller model may very well sell good. They're just being made as city trucks. Neither battery is big enough or charges quickly enough for long road trips, so a lot of people may not care about the extra range. Depends on pricing. The 100k battery replacement is pretty spot on. Smaller batteries means more complete charge cycles done faster. NMC noticably degrades after around 800 cycles. The batteries will start needing replaced at 10 years and 100,000 miles.

Lol. No it isn't. The batteries are only 53kw\h in size and they're using shitty NMC batteries instead of LFP (or other) batteries because they want the full $7,500 tax credit. $500 would more than make up for the aerodynamics. No manufacturers want to use those batteries anymore because they only last like 2\5 the charge cycles compared to LifeP04, and it get even worse compared to other batteries coming out right now. Really, putting those batteries in something with only a 150 mile range is kind of a shitty move, IMO. You'll need a new battery after 100,000 miles. Fine for a cheaper option I suppose, so long as the batteries are easy to replace and it won't cost $5,000 in labor.

Riiiught. How is that going to make it cheaper? They can use a bit smaller of a battery to get the same range? That size difference would just be around $500.

Twas the night before Christmas....

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house everyone felt shitty even the mouse. With mom at the whore house and dad smokin grass I settled down for a nice piece of ass when out on the lawn arose such a clatter I sprang from my piece to see what was the matter and out on the lawn I seen some big dick and I knew in a moment it must be St.Nick he flew down my chimney like a bat out of hell and i knew in a moment the fucker had fell He filled all our stocking with pretzels and beer and a big rubber dick for my brother, the queer. then he rose up the chimney with a thunderous fart the son of a bitch blew my chimney apart cussing and cursing as he rode out of sight. pissing on all having one hell of a night. I made a few lyric changes from when I learned this one in grade school, circa 1994ish. The great ones will last the generations. Merry Christmas!

I’ll keep my unkillable Gen 2 Prius. 281,000 miles on the odometer, original engine, replaced the hybrid battery a few years back with a brand new one from Toyota (that I installed myself after convincing a dealership to just sell one to me) and knock on wood, but that’s the last maintenance item I’ve even had to spend any money on. Too bad quality dropped off after the Gen 2 years.
