Just found out that John Blanche passed away a few days ago.

First discovered him in GW’s Fighting Fantasy gamebooks.

His art is a huge part of my childhood love of gaming.

Some of the Gears of Jungle Drums: "Julius", plus the "King Cobra" and "Kodiak".

Julius was Miranda Petite's personal Gear, a stock Spitting Cobra which she had named and which would reappear in later Heavy Gear books along side her.

Colonel Proust, Soldier Roskiman and Miranda Petite: two antagonist NPCs and a pre-generated PC.

All three of these characters would recur in later Heavy Gear books, with Petite (a favourite among Heavy Gear fans and the staff at Dream Pod 9) appearing the most often.

Another #TerraNovaThursdays belated 30th anniversary: #HeavyGear #OperationJungleDrums was part of the Gamemaster Starter Kit published in October of 1995.

The adventure included a cast of antagonist NPCs and pre-generated PCs, some of whom (like fan favourite Miranda Petite, seen on the front cover) would reappear in later Heavy Gear books.
