Ah, on that, I used to work for a public institution where I could look up how much everyone got paid.
Every time I helped someone I would look up their salary. I often found myself saving someone who made $150,000 - 300,000 a year weeks of time.
I was the top performer by a long shot and I had automated a lot of the workflow (but not in a way that someone could replicate because I had not got that far yet) so if I left, they would lose all that automation.
I asked for a raise, they said no, I left. Now I work for a much bigger company and make a whole lot more. Sometimes it works out.
However! I have trouble telling anyone to take such risks. I did a lot of setup in my life to make that leap possible.
