Coming with the next expansion in January, they're going to be shifting their approach from needing daily log-ins for content to weekly achievements, to better match today's playstyles and not impede against other obligations. I can say that as a former FFXI player in its heyday, I always felt "behind" in that game, even though I was playing daily for hours. I've never once felt that way in FFXIV, and I think the new changes coming is going to make it even better for "casual" players. I play FFXIV far less than I ever did FFXI, and still feel up to date and have achieved some things my friends haven't.
Yes, there is the ongoing sub I'm paying, but I think it's a reasonable amount for the sheer enjoyment I get. But I have friends who are free trial players and really love the game, too, even with the restrictions.

@JTO_is_Typing@mstdn.games @Knightky@mstdn.games Shadowbringers is being added to the free trial this week. :D So I think it's just male Viera and female Hrothgar that would need waiting for? The former launched with Endwalker and the latter with Dawntrail.
When 8.0 comes out I might finally use one of my free fantasias to tweak shadowing around Althea's eyes. In some scenes she gets these scary looking eyes due to lighting and I've never liked that. Everything else would be the same, though. Love my girl.

@JTO_is_Typing@mstdn.games @Knightky@mstdn.games they’re upgrading the trial to include Shadwbringers, the third expansion! Shadowbringers is REALLY FUCKING GOOD and it’s definitely worth trying out the game just for that. You’ll have a ton of content to keep you busy and yes, it’s a good intro to the game. Just be aware there are limitations such as not being able to use the market board and the amount of Gil you can have.

@Knightky@mstdn.games @JTO_is_Typing@mstdn.games Exactly. Things like gear, optional items like mounts and minions and orchestrion rolls, other things. But you don't NEED to use the MB because gear drops from dungeons/other content. It just might mean more farming of things. For instance, there is Eureka in the Stormblood expansion that has these logograms thingies that give you bonus attributes and spells in Eureka. Regular players can buy logograms off the MB but free trial players are stuck farming them from Eureka. Still can do the content, just might be more time consuming.
I have some hard thinking to do. And research. Lots of research.

I've played a bit of the Final Fantasy Resonance demo! Enough to know that I will probably wait until I stream it on launch date to play any more.
Initial thoughts: it's both the game I knew and enjoyed, and not. The 2D-HD graphics will take some getting used it (this is my first such experience). I understand pixelation is a feature in this system,, but sometimes the pixelation was too much and distracted me.
They also tweaked the story some! Not drastically, just a new opening and some small changes. One change makes sense to me, the other... well, I'll have to wait and see.
I'm really glad they kept Noriyasu Agematsu as the composer. His work on FFBE was EXCELLENT, and it was such a joy to hear it again in the Resonance demo.
I was surprised to see a difficulty option! I tried it on Normal, and will probably play that setting when I stream the game.
The sprites are just as I remember them, and I think the map of the first dungeon is the same as FFBE, just, you know, different graphically.
All in all, what I experience in the hour I put in was very solid. Hopefully the rest of the game holds up.

After some consideration, I've decided to take a hiatus from live streaming for a while.
There's several factors going into this, the biggest one being that I don't have much drive to play games right now (with the exception of casual mobile games and Devcats games on Steam) so it feels silly to force myself to play games on stream. I also have a bunch of non-streaming projects in the works that I wish to focus on right now.
My anticipated return date is Thursday, October 22nd, when Final Fantasy Resonance comes out. I'll go live sometime that day, because I MUST share my love of Rain and Lasswell. But I may return sooner if I get the itch.
I'm also planning on making some non-live videos of FFXIV's seasonal events, plus finishing out the FFXI San d'Oria quest line. I'll post links to those once they have been uploaded to YouTube.
