@hisold @nixCraft What I find really interesting here is, that hardly any company seems to try to minimize token usage. AI tools can definitely speed up certain aspects of development, and if a company could deliver solutions tailored to these aspects, it could offer these using much less tokens. Instead, we have these "do it all" models with cobbled together harnesses.

Die Symptome sind meines Wissens nicht unähnlich und solange es keinen Fatiguetest gibt, ist es wahrscheinlich unmöglich das zu trennen. Gerade bei langen Verläufen kann ich mir gut vorstellen, dass die körperlichen Symptome besser werden, aber die Depressionen immer schlimmer. Und im Endeffekt bleibt's dann wie vorher.

On the other hand, a lot of people simply have horrible voices/vocal mannerisms. I'm guessing it's because many are not used to speaking on camera, but it's still really bad.

The recent Folding Ideas video has another YouTuber as a clip, and that guy is insufferable. Every sentence has the same modulation and he pitches like three octaves above his normal voice at the end of each one.

Insbesondere ältere/größere Projekte mit Jahren an zu Code geronnenen Annahmen und (impliziten) Anforderungen sind quasi unmöglich mit KI zu bearbeiten. Ich habe schon an Projekten mit tragenden Rechtschreibfehlern gearbeitet. Da liefen Millionenbeträge rüber.

@blub @BMDS Ich arbeite in dem Bereich und kann dir sagen: Geld allein bringt da momentan nicht viel. Die IT Umsetzung ist komplett unkoordiniert und die Bundesebene (ITZBund) ist technisch irgendwo um 2005 unterwegs. Die Länder und Kommunen erfinden nicht nur Räder neu, sondern haben 38 Planfeststellungsverfahren für die Umsetzung einer Raderfindungsstrategie.

But an Arch install will either require substantial effort for that, or be destroyed from third parties by being outdated and insecure. If that's your hobby, perfectly fine. You wouldn't call a house stable, if you need to involve a civil engineer for every lightbulb change. Arch can and will self-destruct at some point, and that's just not acceptable for anyone whose hobby isn't OS maintenance.

@realbloginista @kattascha Das Geld fließt unter anderem in Verwaltungsoverhead und wird dann auch noch in der eigentlichen Arbeit verschwendet, weil die (in meiner Erfahrung) keiner Zeit hat, die Forschung überhaupt zu koordinieren. Professoren verwenden gerne mal ein Drittel ihrer Zeit mit dem Einwerben von Drittmitteln und die Mitarbeiter müssen dann ja auch noch über die Stöckchen der Verwaltung springen. Und ehrlicherweise ich auch viel Forschung einfach Schrott.

@realbloginista @kattascha Die Forschung macht es einem aber auch sehr schwer, da überhaupt Fuß fassen zu können. 10 befristete Verträge hintereinander an 5 verschiedenen Unis und danach de facto Berufsverbot (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) ist irgendwie nicht so super attraktiv - zumal weder Bezahlung noch Arbeitsbedingungen besonders gut sind.

Oft genug managed da ein angelernter Verwaltungsfachwirt die ganze IT. Die sind motiviert und auch eigentlich nicht dumm, aber überhaupt nicht im Thema und oft genug eben komplett unter Wasser.

@ennopark@mastodon.social Fun Fact dazu: wenn die Verwaltung Software ausschreibt, bleibt die oft im Besitz der privaten Firma. Wenn es schlecht läuft, zahlt der Steuerzahler dann alle 2-4 Jahre dafür, dass die funktional identische Anwendung wieder und wieder entwickelt wird.

How many teams claimed, their AI can detect cancer from whatever? Where's the test? Unless the results are actually tested and applicable for actual research or actual products, I'll call bullshit. Granted, that can take a while, but extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

Metaverse was the same, just on a smaller scale. Everyone whose salary or investment depended on it succeeding was in on the hype. Everyone else just saw a bad Second Life replica. The tech industry has no hypergrowth markets left. There's no actual innovation anymore, hasn't been the case for years. So instead they try rent seeking and fraudulent hypes.

Datacenter deals are being abandoned (lack of demand), prices for models are being increased (lack of free VC), and companies backtracking on their AI projects because they simply don't work. I hate that AI could actually be useful in some areas and benefit humanity, but because of capitalism and corruption we've got this mess here.

Hardly anyone actually wants to pay anything for AI, and even less are willing to pay the real price. All the expensive hardware will be obsolete in two or three years and to this day I have not seen a single actually "disruptive" and functional use case for LLMs. Small improvements here and there, sure, but providing free coffee would have produced the same productivity boost.
