Houses built of clay basically "melting" away, since rain lasting for 10 days and nights straight was completely unheard of before. Their adaptation to the local climate doesn't work anymore, after millennia of how houses were built there, because the "weather" does things it never did before...

They might actually be even more intelligent than we know: I recently saw a YouTube video about octopi who taught others things they'd learned, like opening jars. Which kind of was their limitation since the parents die while raising their offspring, so they couldn't pass on knowledge to them. So who knows, maybe it will be octopi who take over as most dominant species, when humans managed to eradicate themselves...

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social my only hope nowadays is that China actually develops a big scale CO2 capture and storage solution and implements it. Because right now they're the only ones actually investing in a) renewables and energy storage in a big way and b) are doing projects that are so humongous in nature that it might actually do the job. And the Western so-called "democratic" nations are much too slow and would rather see the world burn than lose economic leverage.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social mind you the first time I heard about it was "an uncomfortable truth". Which IMHO was the first time it was discussed about openly. But the club of Rome was 1976. And the connection between greenhouse gasses and global warming was first made in the 1870s... So it's not that we didn't know. It's that the people who made it into positions to do something actively chose not to. And the much too little that has been done, has probably been undone by the Ukraine and Iran wars.

We had a meeting with Big League stakeholders like SwissRe and MunichRe which are among the biggest investors and insurers of insurers worldwide. They gave an account of the first hurricane in recorded history that made it down to Brazil.... The ratings agencies didn't show up though.

Und die AfD-Wähler sind deswegen unzufrieden mit "der Politik", und wählen deswegen die Partei, die das selbe machen will, nur noch extremer, weil es ihnen noch immer nicht genug gegen "die Ausländer"geht. Und ohne in sinnvolle Zukunftstechnologien zu investieren. Und Beteiligung der Arbeitnehmer an den Umsätzen gibt's weder in Lohn noch Rente. Können ja Aktien kaufen.

@fuzzyleapfrog eine Gewerkschaft, die nicht durch Filz in die politischen Parteien durchsetzt ist; die sich nicht nur um das (finanzielle) Wohlergehen nur ihrer eigenen Mitglieder schert; die sich nicht nur kämpferisch gibt, sondern auch tatsächlich versucht, gerade auch gegenüber der Politik etwas zu bewirken; die gezielt agiert und sich nicht hinter Symbolismus versteckt, in einer derartigen Gewerkschaft wäre ich gerne Mitglied. Ich bin da auch definitiv offen für Hinweise, wo ich das finde.

@fuzzyleapfrog Insofern fühle ich mich als Arbeitnehmer dann auch nicht von ihnen vertreten. Schon gar nicht, wenn in der Regierung Kürzungen in der Gesundheitsversorge beschlossen werden, und ebensolche Regierungsmitglieder dann am 1. Mai als Redner auf die Bühnen geholt werden. Gelinde gesagt, fühle ich mich dann von ihnen viel mehr verarscht. Das will ich weder durch einen Anteil meines Lohns, noch durch meine Zählernummer bei den Mitgliedszahlen unterstützen.

@fuzzyleapfrog die Aufgabe, die sie zu übernehmen vorgeben, ist zugegeben eine äußerst wichtige. Aber sie (die bekannten Gewerkschaften) haben halt leider eine sehr eingeschränkten Vorstellung davon, was es heißt, die Interessen der Arbeitnehmer zu vertreten (Tarifverträge und das war's). Dass es momentan vielmehr darum ginge, den strukturellen Wandel sinnvoll zu begleiten und für zukünftige Generationen funktionierende Sozialsysteme (Stichwort: Rente) zu schaffen, sehe ich leider bei keiner.

@fuzzyleapfrog eine Alternative habe ich für mich zumindest nicht gefunden. Gewerkschaften sind tendenziell eben strukturkonservativ. Das kann in bestimmten Zusammenhängen sinnvoll sein. Aber ich wüsste zB auch von keiner Gewerkschaft die pro Bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen wäre. Was mE die einzige vernünftige Art wäre die gestiegene Produktivität sozial gerecht zu vergüten. Die FAU wirkt zumindest halbwegs sympathisch, aber offene Fragen sind da trotzdem noch.

@fuzzyleapfrog die GEW ist ja zumindest halbwegs stabil. Aber als ver.di sich für die Vernichtung des Hambacher Forsts stark gemacht hat, weil sonst ja "bis zu 600 Jobs bei RWE" gefährdet seien, konnte ich nicht guten Gewissens Mitglied bleiben. Wenn es nur um den Erhalt von Jobs geht, ohne Rücksicht auf Konsequenzen jenseits davon, ohne Offenheit für Alternativen wie Umschulungen, etc.... Sorry, dann bin ich raus. Und das Problem sehe ich bei eigentlich allen DGB-Gewerkschaften...
