Final day of IL General Assembly budget session. Happy to join Power Up and the People's Lobby in support of the IL Revenue Alliance agenda. Progressive tax to fund education, healthcare for all, restore SNAP and Medicaid, housing access,.senior care worker pay, cash assistance, reentry, violence prevention, pretrial services, mental health support. Tax digital ads. Tax corporations based on worldwide reporting (ya know, include their base in the Caymans). Tax billionaires. Decouple from Trump tax bill and loopholes. None of us are funded until all of us are funded.

This is great history. Worth a listen. This story also helps me take heart. People need reporting that reflects what they see and experience in real life. People will create something from the rubble that bari and david leave behind. Empathy, creativity and curiosity are the gifts that drive lasting change.

From The Canadian Press: 

"Discussions about forced labour tend to focus on global supply chains in the Global South, so in factories in Southeast Asia or agricultural fields in Latin America. But the use of forced or prison labour in the U.S., including under deeply coercive and abusive conditions, receives far less attention, especially here in Canada."

Wisner's team submitted a detailed complaint this month to the Canada Border Services Agency asking it to block goods made with forced labour coming in from the United States.

Nabila Khan, a researcher who co-authored the complaint, said her team of fellow lawyers examined reports from government and citizen groups in the U.S. about prisoners being coerced into working on parts for Hyundai and Genesis vehicles and Dorsey Trailer products. The also conducted interviews with currently and formerly incarcerated workers.

We are curious fish. We like discovery and oxygen.The big tech platforms are water parks with constructed slides, poolside cotton candy and big gulps, sunscreen, and swim fashion. The influencers have megaphones and whistles to tell us when the schedule changes and how to stay safe. To hold your attention, they introduce increasingly insane clickbait innovations like a 180⁰ water slide with an option to add a waterproof VR headset.
