SO... I was thinking about finally giving up and deleting my LinkedIn profile in the last couple of weeks. Not that it has ever helped me before, but I am glad I didn't. I need to update it. A lot. I've done up my CV tonight. Meanwhile... if anyone could use an experienced technical employee based in Wellington (remote work is fine), do let me know. My short CV - I'm not a programmer, not a database designer, not a data engineer, not an architect, not a technical write...

Hey Kiwis. I was thinking of replacing two MR16 spots in ceiling mounts with some Philips Hue ones. Looking on the Hue site it talks about compatible transformers. Looking at the bulbs I have in there now, I have previously unthinkingly replaced the originals with standard LED ones at some point. Philips have a chart which shows transformer compatibility but I can't even understand how to read the chart let alone know where that transformer actually is (if I have one) to read any info...

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@codemonkeymike/116410748307966231 It's not a T2 problem, it's an information problem. You also can't use a car someone sells you if they don't give you a key. Oh, but you used to be able to hot-wire cars. Yes... and why can't you now? Same reason. I speak as someone who has sold... thinks... 2 iPads, 6 iPhones, and 7 Macs (some very recently) to new owners who all have them now locked to their own accounts. Bitching about the...

Hmmmm. So Mainfreight are disappointed that KiwiRail don't want to talk to them. Why is it that Mainfreight are only NOW talking to KiwiRail about moving freight efficiently? Trains have ALWAYS been more efficient than trucks. Yet between government sell-offs and under-investment in rail and the simultaneous road-centric spend-ups, we should be thankful that KiwiRail is still in business! I clearly remember conversations in the 1980s that more needed to be done to utilise rail. Heck,...

A small reminder that "a11y" is the most antithetical (and heterological) "word" ever invented. I saw another, similarly formed "word" today and I felt a pathological sense of not wanting to know what it stood for.

The EMAS is all installed and last night the runway was re-marked for increased length. Airways Corporation have been calibrating a new ILS, too. Pic 1 - Airways Corp Piper Cheyenne conducting a calibration approach. The southern EMAS is visible right below it (the blue-grey material). Pic 2 - A couple of execs have a photo op at the north end of the runway. You can see a blacked out marking. The northern EMAS will be in the picture behind the exec. Interestingly, listening to the radio, all...
