  I've just read the phrase "...American AI’s profit model is at stake if the Chinese start..." and I had to stop to collect myself. American AI’s profit model is already broken, Chinese competition has nothing to do with this!

  I re-oiled our kitchen worktops yesterday. Consequently all of yesterday's washing up is stacked on every remaining flat surface (mostly the hob and the windowsill). I have to leave in 45 minutes, and I still have to wash & dry all the dishes, clean & dry all the worktops, apply another coat of oil, pack all my painting gear, have a shower, get dressed and leave.   I decided 15+ years ago that life would be much easier if all my socks were identical. So I had perhaps 30 pairs of black socks. Turns out that after two or three years of wear & washing, identical socks are no longer identical and the cognitive load involved in matching pairs of black socks is somewhat higher than if they'd all been different colours & patterns.

  I have had a tab open for about 3 months now, an article about PJ Proby. I've never knowingly heard a performance by this artist, and honestly I do not know why I care or even if I do. But still I can't bring myself to close the tab.

  I've just watched a piper hold a drone, a single unwavering pair of notes, in front of a sold out theatre crowd, for three, maybe four minutes. Hearing a pin drop wouldn't be in. The audience tension was serious.

  It always astounds me how much personal information people are prepared to share without prompting and without purpose, in public places and to complete strangers. Is it from a place of wanting to have human contact? Or is it about feeling self-conscious and as if the contact is an interruption, and an attempt to justify or defend that? I mean: I have a man's address, phone no., email, holiday destination, date & duration, and GP's name & practice.

  This thought occurred to me while on the trainer this morning: those DVD boxsets at the bottom of the bookcase that have been there for 10 years and will most likely remain unwatched forever, maybe I could rip them and watch them while training? I'm a little embarrassed that I've only thought of this now, in 2026.

  I just looked at LinkedIn to try and understand something someone said. First time on there in years. I am so glad I am out of the tech environment and cut off from that kind of engagement and thinking. Reading some posts was like taking my winter gloves off to touch something very cold. No thanks.

  I heard some mid/late '70s KISS earlier and I'm quite surprised at how similar it sounded to some early/mid 70s Blue Öyster Cult, Peter Criss' voice really puts me in mind of Al Bouchard too.
