    My attempt at decoding HN&#39;s reaction to Codeberg&#39;s LLM ban: - Slopbros can&#39;t stand being told no by anyone, anywhere, because the whole productization strategy depends on eroding consent. - Commenters are projecting the structure and goals of an international multi billion dollar corporation onto a nonprofit with a limited budget.

    AI is really the perfect reflection of American society, huh? Something that doesn&#39;t work, is built entirely on scams, but takes off anyway because the only people who have the ability to do anything about it are neither able nor interested in becoming able to evaluate anything on technical merits, because we live in a post-truth culture, and live under an economy that can only understand limitless growth and consumption.

    Argh, Nintendo is making it more and more difficult to *not* use passkeys. Which on it&#39;s own, fine. But they also don&#39;t feature detect correctly and reject any of my browsers on desktop entirely. Plus, I&#39;ve had any number of sites just not recognize my existing passkeys lately, with (as always) zero actionable error messages. I was almost in a good space with all this, but passkey implementations continue to be both exceedingly high-maintenance *and* aggressively forced.

    I have less ad blocking up at the moment (see my travel router saga), which means being exposed to the absurdity of the home-search AI ad campaign. It is so on point that everything they are advertising as being new and amazing was already trivial to do with filters on Redfin, Zillow, et al. The lack of imagination is simply stunning.

    I haven&#39;t had the time to read the details of Codeberg&#39;s changes yet, due to ongoing personal health, so I won&#39;t pretend to have an informed opinion there. All I wish is that tech media covering the changes could tell the difference between one of the largest corporations in the world and a small nonprofit, between Codeberg and Forgejo, and just in general to stop making apples–oranges comparisons.

    It&#39;s funny, I can&#39;t really think of a specific moment that radicalized me against LLMs. More of a progressive and iterative process of learning about one harm after another, and of seeing more and more from the labor perspective.

    It is endlessly frustrating that computing as an industry finally seems to have come around to the long overdue idea that hardware, programming languages, compilers, static analyzers, and operating systems should all work together to make it easier to develop and run robust applications....... .....but only so that they can throw more slop at that platform without having to face any consequences for doing so.

    There is one particular moment in my life that convinced me beyond any doubt that B2B is an absolute trashfire that has nothing to do with any rational evaluation of business or market needs. I deeply cannot share that moment, but I mention it by way of... wow, yeah, I can never read business news with a straight face again. This remains the case when reading news about OpenAI.

    I&#39;m of mixed minds as to how to feel about the $1T suit against Meta. They deserve it, and need to be dismantled dollar by dollar. At the same time, press around the suit is doing a lot of narrative work for KOSA-like &quot;protect the children&quot; rhetoric — rhetoric that gets kids killed by hateful parents. The issue isn&#39;t that Meta exploited children without their parents&#39; consent, it&#39;s that Meta exploited children at *all*.
