Do good things and talk about them. And if good things are done to you, for you, around you, also talk about then. Because knowing may inspire others. Because folks feel lonely and caught in endless doom. Because we sometimes need a push to do something: it's easier if we know there is someone else, even of they are just a voice on the little screen in our pockets. Because we need to combat the negativity bias.

Hello Italy! Sometines you do remind me that your food can be amazing. Local place, not visibly a restaurant at all (thanks google for pointing it out for once!), hand-written daily-changing menu, grandpa-style cook explaining all the dishes and a "glas of wine" of about half a liter. Only the bruchetta-style starters were something we ordered, all other starters were on the house 🤯 #food #florence #italy #COSPAR2026

Two excellent slides from Piero Benvenuti from IAU CPS (https://cps.iau.org/ International astronomical union center for the protection of dark and quiet sky) at #COSPAR2026 in the "Dark and Quiet Sky" session discussing megaconstellations. (Also emphasising that this is a transition to that happens broader and that the threat to the sky is just one example of.) #astrodon

You'd think one would be over it at some point of one's career. But here I am, having submitted a report last week and the editor writes back saying "thanks for a detailed and thoughtful report. exemplary actually. i find it very useful." -- and I am PREENING myself on this. Seriously, folks, never forget how happy a few words of real praise (there were some more details in there that show that the editor truly engaged) can make someone. #Academia #astrodon

#VicisBooks #lesen #buch #books

I'm in that phase (they come sometimes) when I struggle focusing even for 10 min, non-stop distracted. I HATE this. No proper reading possible. Art only in small bits. I wish I were the person whose reaction to certain kinds of stress is hyperfocus. But no, I have brain hamsters who panicky run on their little wheels and want brain pop corn as distraction. (Please no recommendations on what to do. I know how to deal with this and will deal with this. But I want to share. Visibility, etc....

😭💔 I've known Ralph since I was visiting master student in Amsterdam in 2008... Never directly worked with him but had a ton of great conversations about all kinds of things related to work and international living... https://www.astronomie.nl/nieuws/in-memoriam-ralph-wijers-astrofysicus-1964-2026-4834 #astrodon

It's cool enough to be able to spend Sunday morning on the couch with a tea and a book (the book is amazing and mind-changing, so I'm super slow at reading it since there is so much information to process and so much of mt own thinking and conceptualising to change...). #HappyThings #bookstodon #VicisBooks

Brains are strange. Mine is usually pretty chill about waiting - for people or trains, doesn't matter. But I've got a (minor) referral in my inbox to an eye clinic. My GP sent me to the one that is much further away from my place, so I want to find out whether they can take me in another location. I know I need to call the clinic on Monday to ask whether they can do it or whether I need to ask the GP. And my brain is SCREAMING at me to do it NOW, throwing up complex nonsensical scenari...

Made birthday muffins for a friend this week :) It's a kefir-based recipe that was originally a cake and that I got from a friend during the first months of the pandemic, when everyone seemed to search for comfort in cooking. It's spectacular as muffins. The kefir and the chocolate keep them in perfect balance of sweet and slightly tangy with bits of nuttiness from walnuts. And they make excellent brownies if you forget the baking powder 😅 #ViciCooks #food #kochen #baking #backen #muff...

Oh fun... (The following is for NL based folks, but important for others, too). So a while ago #Odido data leaked, remember? Now I got a phishing sms onto my phone quoting my actual account number. 😣 *** [ABN]: Na meerdere herinneringen blokkeren we de betaalpas van MY-REAL-ACCOUNT-IBAN. Om dit te voorkomen ga direct naar: PHISHING LINK STARTING WITH ABN. *** Be careful out there and talk to your less savvy friends & relatives (yes, also the ones who think that they are).
