Is vacuum decay truly a disaster, or a mercy killing?

More people are forced to live here in the woods and wetlands; disabled, nursing home patients thrown out of newly privatized homes, working poor racist refuse to rent idle property, and others deemed unfit the ignorance and cruelty of this land marches on as dead bodies have now become a thing you find in the woods. It is not like there is no national government, but it is even run like a kitchen cabinet. It's a cheap liquor cabinet stocked from 7-eleven, definitely no top shelf liquo...

So many privileged white suburban civil libertarians are now hiding. They were willing to argue against racism when it advance careers. Even then they were okay as long as the Jeffersons staid urban and not moving to their suburbs ;). My foster father was one of them, he even did some legal work for MLK. But he would NEVER have permitted "one of them" to move into his neighborhood. Today, careers grow doing evil, so he would likely be doing that if he were still around. For th...

Oddly pairing Microbe C++ with #gtk (gtk4) directly produces far better cross-platform results than either #vala #mono or C++ with #Qt and does so while producing tiny executables. Of course, the idea of doing any desktop applications while #blind is rather amusing, too. Something like Microbe might pair very well with #LVGL too, producing an embedded ui environment potentially cleaner than #QtQuick for most use cases while having far less execution overhead.

I am not at the moment very interested in the problem of connecting arbitrary internet users to services at scale. I am interested in creating private secure domains and application services that can be extended over the internet to remote participants with technologies like #tailscale and let closed organizations perform their missions outside of surveillance or any external control.

In #Beijing the circus came to town, and they sent the school kids to watch the clown.

It shouldn't be rocket science, but even #NASA can't seem to get #outlook to work. https://www.404media.co/artemis-2-astronauts-microsoft-outlook-livestream/

The saucer landed and the crowds gathered. The hatch opened and the alien appeared. There was a murmur in the crowd. "RAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER" the alien demanded. It was as the crowd had feared! There was much narrowing of downcast eyes, the folding of the arms, and the shuffling of the feet. Finally, a child stepped forward. and answered. "It's embarrassing" #microfiction

One of the things I find no use for anymore is the 3 tier SV model for developing enterprise services. You really only need this if you are scaling to aggregative hosting and control of other people's data or your iin the fortune 50 list, but SV does want to host and control their data, too. I believe data and compute autonomy is so essential to business and personal integrity and dignity, which is why I was so hated in SV. I also prefer practices optimized around performance, determini...

While there are entirely valid use cases for data centers, including #geospatial and #hpc and I have been involved in both when I could see, most of the SV ones are dead to me. When I turn on a light or take a call from someone down the hall, or share a private file locally, I have NO NEED or desire for an external data center to be involved. A local network that can do smart routing and support remote endpoints, like wireguard / #tailscale helps make data center computing and server hosting...

On April 13th, Orban was forced to remove himself, that request came from his people. With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the Moscow apartment of his good friend Assad. Months earlier his people had thrown him out requesting he never return. Can two ex-dictators share an apartment without driving each other crazy? Trump once said he would build a wall and get Mexico to pay for it. He failed at that, too, but the Iranians have definitely outdone him. They said they would block the straits, and they got the US to do it for them, too Well played #Iran

Being #blind, and in any case working mostly from an #ALpineLinux terminal screen, I mostly use #vim . I might have chosen neovim but I kept hitting the strange small incompatibilities. One of them is if neovim detects a 256 color term, it uses it by default,. The problem is there is no option to disable and force #ansi color use. I had spent years tuning an ansi color them that actually works for my eyes so I can vaguely see differences and have some idea what I am typing. The Alpine vim packa...
